ENGINES... what to do?

    so, the old gen1 3sge is on its last legs, and i was wondering what ppls opinions are on what to do about this issue. i know many of you have come to this point and made the choice to either rebuild the gen one, or go for the gen3...

    turbo is totally out of the question for my budget and for various other reason.

    whats the best all round choice? should i rebuild the gen1 or source out a half cut gen2 or gen3 3sge and work on doing the conversion??

    i think i know the answer but i was wondering what other ppl have gone with and why have have or would?

    any help would be GREATLY appreciated :)

    what are you trying to accomplish with your car? how do u like the ge u have now

    i love the ge, in general, and i love mine, but i know its not gonna be around for ever... i havent ever driven a celi with a gen3 3sge. i wouldnt know what to expect after ones put into a st162..

    i just want the car for road use. fast still, but i wont be racing it or anything...

    My 1g 3S-GE blew and I'm swapping in a JDM 1g 3S-GE. It should give a 15hp gain over my old engine (plus my old one was worn out so it'll feel like even more). If you go 2g or 3g 3S-GE you have some rewiring to do IIRC

    how hard is it to come across a JDM 1g 3sge? and what price am i looking at?

    what does it come with? just the block or what? the gear box is on its way out too i think...

    shipping may be a lot more but price wise 1200 USD at the most.

    Also if you go with a JDM engine youll have to do the full swap over of ecu and sensors or you wont be gaining much.

    ohh really.. so it basically a full engine bay swap? i will have a chat with a few import guys from my way and see if i can work something out.

    I'm getting an engine/tranny/ecu/chopped harness w/ under 80k for $1200 CAD, shipping will cost me $150. it's a bit harder to find than the GTE, but most of those come with an MR2 or Alltrac tranny.

    thats one sweet deal! i will have to start looking around for one as my cars undrivable right now cause of the engine. can u use an mr2 tranny in the celica? whats it called? what about the camry tranny?

    mr2 tranny is backwords iirc but there is a way to make it work im quite sure

    yeah you need a conversion kit to use the MR2 tranny, they go for $350USD I think, someone on here has one they're selling.

    and the camry trans works as well.
