sounds like a win. should be a good source for some helpful info for you if you need.

so the motor was from an mr2?

Yep. The guy who owns the place took it out of his own SW20, he'd had it dynoed at 108kw at the wheels prior to removing it :D (he's swapping a GTE into his car)

ok, well your going to need to hunt down the alt and tensioner brackets from an gen3 3s powered celica (turbo or no turbo but not from a 5sfe) and possibly the celica dipstick and tube also, as i believe the mr2 one may interfere where the alt sits...?

you'll be able to use the PS bracket and pump from the st162.

what gearbox are you going to run? the st162 box with starter under the headers may work, i don't think it'd hit the water lines for the oil cooler, but may be something you need to double check.

for the gearbox and starter from a st162 it will touch the oil cooler pipes will have to remove oil cooler and use the old water pipes I am using the same setup not 100% sure if the gen2 and gen3 block are the same I am on a MR2 gen2 block and had to change all the bracket's from gen1 and they all fitted.

I think I still have a gen3 alt bracket - For the adjuster I'd fit a 5S adjuster and save a lotta weight.

Best plan for the box is to use a MR2/Camry starter and drill out the holes in your bellhousing - details and pics are on Dave's thread (ST165-7645432)
You will have to do this anyway as the gen3 flywheel is bigger, or mod your flywheel to fit the later crank and mod the oil cooler pipe

You will need the intake pipe, airbox, throttle cable and dipstick from a Celica

lol, forgot about the need for the later flywheel, so yeh ditch the s53.

the gen3 cooler pipes aren't both under the headers like gen2, just one is, the other one comes off the block under the water pump.

interesting about the 5s adjuster, i have one sitting out back, i might have a look to see how easy it is to fit with the gen3 alt bracket, you'd have to at least cut the bottom alt mount point of the bracket.

    Here's my 5S tensioner adapted to a gen1/2 block, it's not ideal I admit

The WRC cars had a C/F bracket which is the correct shape, if anyone gets a batch cut from alu please put me on the list!

Kinda hard to spot, but an expensive piece of hardware back in the 80's

Thanks for the info guys, great stuff! Good to know I can use the PS pump I already have, 'cause I bought a rebuild kit for it a while ago and thought now I'd have to bin it. The guy's "courtesy car" uses the standard S53 gearbox, I'll grill him next time I see him for info on how he made it fit, what flywheel he's using, etc. The factory flywheel and a (unknown) clutch come with it, but I was going to buy a Fidanza flywheel anyway. He did mention that he had to mod the alternator bracket to make it sit higher, and when I had a look under the bonnet I'm sure it was sitting almost level with the intake plenum (dammit, why didn't I take any pictures :banghead )

It's only the Gen1 flywheel/starter/box/crank that are different to the rest
The box is easy to mod, the rest isn't
