well it had to happen eventually. im hearing a weird sound from around 1800rpm - 2500 rpm most prevelantly but can also be heard higher. its there in all gears, neutral, clutch in clutch out bla bla moving not moving, straight or turning uphill or downhill.

it sounds rotational (engine or tranny) kinda like a light grinding/whirling sound.... i cant really hear it if i just stand outside playing with the throttle, its very faint that way. its very noticable inside the car with my stereo off and such.

maybe its just a vibration but it really sounds engine or tranny related.

i drive this car pretty hard on occasion and it happened after i was on a nice late night cruise to relax where i pulled from about 120-170kph in 5th at like 3/4 throttle, car got a bit shaky but my allignment is fubar.

ill get some1 to rev it while i search with teh car jacked up soon but any ideas? thanks guys

wow thsi could be timing belt tension, noisy tappets any number of things.

i remember when i had a lada niva, that when the chain tension was off it would rattle and sake anywhere under 3000 rpm

so this could be related to that timing belt tension

either way i wouldnt drive it much if at all

the onyly other thing i can think of is pistion slap or a blown bearing

My mate had the same problem and it ended up being his cv and ball joins were rooted. Failing that could be a belt is on its way out when was the last time they were looked at or replaced

take it 2 a mechanic and get him 2 look at ur car..

make sure he doesnt rip u off for something

cuz yeh you could have a crank n bearings on there way out or just a driveshaft joint..?

check ur belt tension and roll the car down a hill and see if u hear rattling still

this should help u out a bit.

    wait,

actually so ur saying the noise is louder from inside the car?

ifso then its definately ur crank or clutch setup.....

and if it also/or is ur timing belt hten get it looked at immediately, it can cost u ur engine

The Miata makes a high pitched whine between 2500 and 3800 rpm. But only sometimes. I keep telling my dad to get it looked at, but, it took him a year and a half of me bitching at him before he replaced the rear tires, which where completely bald by the time he did. Battery still hasn't been replaced, even though every other day the car won't start....my dad takes terrible care of his vehicles. :x I'm pretty sure it's a bearing and not a belt, it sounds different from a belt squeal.

Yeah i have already done my timing belt it took me 3 days to do coz im lazy and don't read instructions all the way through :p! I got a can of WD40 (not sure if you call it that over there) which is just a lubricant of sorts. I assume you have the bolt off? If not I have a book which explains how to do it. but as far as getting the pully off i just sprayed wd40 on it left it for a few hours then pulled!!! then fell on my ass :D but i used a rattler gun to get the bolt off (think its also called a impact hammer)
