Just finished up doing a valve job on engine (3sge)...started up engine for first time and it fired right and idled ok for a couple of minutes then it just shut down. I'm not getting a spark from the coil. Would the ignition coil just go out like that??
If not what are my options ?

    Vixed it...

First I checked and cleaned all the connections, especially the small bracket w/ three fuses that hangs off the positive terminal (it was a little oxidized w/ slight greenish corrosion that cleaned up nicely)...but still no spark. Also followed the BGB to make sure that there was power at the coil and igniter and did all the other tests to the dist connectors, etc.
Finally I pulled the coil and checked it directly off of the battery and absolutely no spark. Went to the local Ecology boneyard that usually has a couple ST162's but none around...
Snagged a coil off of an old Camry that looked verrry similar except the high tension lead was slightly different (it was a smaller positive snap-in type) but I was desperate.
Checked it out and had good spark. Other than that one terminal the coil was plug and play so I did a good clean job of modifying the NGK cable that came with it to fit correctly in the stock dizzy. Started right up an idled good.
So hopefully this closes the book on this chapter...Special thanks to Mafix, Stig and especially Joe here locally (white Beams Coupe) for loaning me his BGB!
