Hey guys i got a couple questions/information that i am sure you guys would know about even though i got a newer transmission going in soon(102,000 kms).

Why would my driver side axle INNER go in and out of the transmissions differential gears, shouldn't it lock in place inside of the differential gears? or is it just my diff planetary's, bearings, gears etc on its way??.

How would i go about temperarely getting it to lock on place, i can take the axle out in like 5 minutes so it wouldnt be a problem getting it out, filling trans fluid etc. I have seen a dab of blue locktight on the teeth of my old passenger axle is this the same for driver side? *EDIT* I FOUND OUT THERES A CIRCLIP THAT POPS INTO PLACE ON DRIVER SIDE ONLY*

I can make a video if needed to see the in and out movement or wheel to differential movement/play.

The reason i noticed it was happening because it started pulling to the left also a metal on metal clunk sound when switching lanes or turning after the steering wheel is centered (going straight@ 120 kms), or going on harder left and right turns on the highway. Also when i am in say 2nd gear going into a slow corner if i dont let it hit the fuel cut, it knocks when i hit the gas again. (I know it sounds like a worn axle shaft assy. but i know that sound and feeling by now.). By the sounds of everything my diff is on its way out (surely it would have lasted longer if i put gear oil in my transmission instead of ATF dextron what it recommended for 86 transmissions in the haynes manual.?)

(I Have jacked it up and grabbed onto the passenger inner it moves about 1/4 of an inch in and out of the differential *NO FLUID LEAKS* )

ALSO I HAVE A NEW DRIVER SIDE AXLE READY TO GO FOR THE NEW TRANNY SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS ONE/OR DIFFERENTIAL I JUST WANT IT TO WORK TILL THE WEEKEND I GET OFF WORK WHEN I DO THE TRANNY.

Thanks for any input, it would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the circlip is worn. the d.s. is normally a huge pain to get to pop out, you literally should need a 2ft bar and a big hammer to pop it out. use a deadblow to pop it into the trans case, sometimes youll even have to just go with an 8lb sledge (watch the threads), youll know you got it when you cant figure out how to get it back out. maybe it was never seated properly. i wouldnt use locktite. when you switch the axle upgrade your fluid. i use mobil 1 synthetic 75-90. it will substantialy stiffen the box up.

-all the times ive had to drop the trans i leave the d.s. axle in just because its such a pain. a small amount of play is normal in both sides.
