Anyone know if there are drifting events in the B.C area and if so when? Also if there are tracks available to practice drifting. Thanks.
yes i too would like to know. if you plan on making the celi go sideways, you better invest in lots of ebrake parts. don't know of too many guys who whip fwd cars. a friend of mine claims to have done it in his celica once, but i am a little skeptical. used to be able to do power slides in my cressidas before those got sold. definately dangerous unless you are experienced or are at least on a deserted piece of land. there is an abonded airbase here in cali. where i crashed my first cresida into a fence, caught fire, and had some people with a fire extinguisher drive by to help put it out. it was crazy. very stupid of me. but i didnt have to replace the fence and i never got a call from anyone. but the lesson learned is to be safe at all times and make sure you are supervised or can't get hurt. the last time i went out with some people to do some swings, this girl plowed her 240 right into a pole. made a huge mess. then some crazy lady in a van was chasing us so we headed right towards her while she was on her cell phone in a 2jz swapped cressida to scare her off. we dodged her at the last moment but she got the idea. those engines are sooooo fast. omg. so much fun. but be careful bro. people definately get hurt when they do not know what they are doing.
Wasn't planning on drifting my soon to be celica because I dont want to crash it...im looking into getting an 85 or 86 corolla to use for drifting, that is if i can practice somewhere. Anyone know of events in BC?
An Old RWD corolla would be ideal to have a go, not alot of power will make things hard though. BTW Its technically impossible to drift a FWD. It can oversteer, thats it.
^^lol exactly y i was hoping he wasnt going to do it with the celica. another cheap and prob more common rwd car is a nissan 240SX
Nope its not "technically impossible" to drift a FWD...google it, you'll see...its hard as hell but once you practice its possible.
if its on the internet it must be true. lol no sorry its just not true, the back wheels really have to spin for it to actually be a drift (you get rated based on slide angle, smoke, style, speed etc. none of which you can hold in FWD). You can slide around a corner sideways with the e-brake in a FWD car (no one will say otherwise) but its just not the same thing. I mean they may (not sure if they will or not) let you enter a front wheel drive car in a amateur event but i wouldnt count on getting past your first opponent even with perfect e-brake turns (which is all they are... not drifting). (and sorry for the obvious sarcasm at the start but it was just there waiting for me) so all in all its a good thing your not using a FWD car.
Exactly. It IS impossible to drift a FWD car. You can slide it, it can oversteer, it cant drift. The rear wheels cannot spin, so it cant drift. basic isn't it?
power slide tournaments... :horse: :jester: other cars that arent bad to begin with but take skill and time to master would be an us issued nissan 200sx, cressida, miata, supra, 300zx and of course older celicas than ours. my first cressida wound up in a fence like i said, my second one died on me. but in my defense the first was automatic, and you can only power over in an auto, and the second was dying on me so i could really only powerslide. cressidas are cheap. do not get an ae86 cuz its "the car" to drift in. get an older one that is a real pos and not going to cost you 3 times its actual value. gotta be kidding me. who would pay 8k for a decent shaped ae86 is out of their mind. don;t care if its "california condition" bite me!
^^ Yeah maybe ill get an older corolla or celica or something...A AE86 would be sweet as hell though...theres one on buysell.com for sale for 6K.
hahahaha. ok seriously though. yes they are fine cars, but in all reality, way more hype than what they are asking. so many aftermarket parts for this car now its ridiculous. older celicas are totally awesome. and they have a turbo model for the ra60 celicas. type in 22rte, it came in some 4-runners and toyota pickups back in the day. throw one of those in an 85 celica gt-s convertible or hatch and it will scream. so much potential there. and its cheaper than the ae86. plus those super cool celica-supra rims everyone wants, are stock on that car. no need to buy upgraded rims....cuz you already have the ones everone wants. hahaha. just something to think about. most of those cars, in decent condition go for about 1500-3500 tops. think of doing the 22rte swap for another 1200, upgrade the turbo for a few hundred more, intercooler for a few hundred more, suspension for about 1k and you have a 5-6000 car that will out-perform the corolla in my opinion. plus you get originality points and it was cheaper than most "excellent" condition ae86's. just my 2 cents though!
i know there is something around the Van area and im definately up for a road trip to go watch. there is autocross in vernon which im down for too its a good time and u can race toooooooo i might buy my buddys pos 318i he just got for $400 and make it driftable lol post on intencity im sure some1 will help you out. as for autocross autocrossracer.com its with the kelowna corvette club but less than half are vettes which ae86 is it is it white...brandons?
Cool well if you go to an event in Van let me know cause ill definitely go, thats if you want someone to go. Not sure what colour the AE86 is...there wasnt a pic.
