Ok so ive had my 87 gt vert for a couple months or whatever during that time ive been careful ya no learnin the quirks.... but today i said fuck it doing burnouts in a old mall parkinglot and did a couple fine launching at 3500 but then i tried like 4300 give or take i dumped da clutch and POP! car did not stall or anything but tried to to let off clutch in first to see if it would move and nothin no noise not even a stall so i thought fuck no clutch mother fuck i got out and looked and see axle hanging down on right side and bolts errywhere all i can see is money at this point where i was wasent far from my house maybe 1/2 mile down a flat south carolina road so i got to pushing but this being the south erryones nice and some guys helped me and as we were pushing a dog runs out from a house barking at us in the road and a oncoming car HIT the dog crazy the guys whose dog it was just informed me it was fine but i was sad cus if i wasent doing burnouts and pushing my car dog would not have ran out but good to no it was ok.

but anyway back to axle i have next two days off and am going to fix it from what ive read on here its not as big problem as i thought but i saw that gt axle are weaker than gts axles so should i upgrade and where can i find them i can only find gt axles ? and how hard is the job anything i should know? Does it should like more than just axle because cluth does nothing i can start car ok so i think its fine but if i put in first and let off it dont even stall so can that be something to?

First off, it took me 15 minutes to read and process that wall of text and rambling. A period here and there is quite beneficial, just ask any female.

Second off, it's a 20+ year old car. I'm guessing you just picked it up and really haven't had a chance to go through it mechanically and see what your weak spots are (or what needs to be addressed before taking said actions). That being said, the 86-89 ST/GT/GTS did <NOT> come with a factory LSD option (I think the AT also can be included however I'm not 100% certain of this statement).

Why did I mention that? Well its quite simple. What does a LSD do? It helps to provide equal power to the drive wheels in a vehicle. It doesn't matter if it's FWD, RWD, AWD, truck, car, gokart, whatever. Without a limited slip installed, if one of the drive tires looses traction it will start spinning (thus why most non-LSD vehicles doing burnouts only leave 1 black stripe).

Since you have broken an axle, there is NO resistance to one side of the differential in the transmission. You can put it in any gear and the motor won't stall. Same thing would happen if you jack the vehicle up in the air and put it in a gear (if both axles are connected). No resistance to the wheels = no load to the transmission = no stalling of motor.

Could you have other problems? Yeah. I'm sure there's a nut or two loose. On top of that your clutch (I'm guessing you didn't do any work to it or inspect it prior to romping it) is pretty pissed at you as well. You may of shortened the lifespan of it greatly.

Go karts are solid axle, both driving wheels turn at the same rate :p Sorry, I had to, lol....

OP, any decent steering workshop should be able to source new axles for you, otherwise ebay is your friend. GT axles should be fine as long as you don't abuse them. Front wheel drive one wheel burnouts are gay anyway :lachtot

No pictures doesn't help and until you get under the car and see exactly what has happened
    I can only guess.

The story about the dog was nice but it would have been better if you had of told us exactly
what size and how many bolts fell out.

So heres my guess. You didn't break the passenger side axle it just fell out of the tranny, it is
a 2 piece axle with a bearing in the middle that bolts to the engine. I think from the very little
info that you gave us that the 2 bolts that hold the bearing to the engine have fallen out and
that allowed the axle to fall out of the tranny.

In the picture below you can see the bracket/bearing on the axle which is unbolted from the
engine and you can see the top bolt on the block where it attaches.

So if that is the problem find a couple more 14mm bolts, stick the axle back into the tranny and then
use the 2 new bolts to re attach the bracket/bearing to the block

once again sorry for the story ill keep it to myself next time.
is that a 3sge in the pic because axel assem. look alil diff.
i do have that bracket you had arrows on and its still on there but the place where the six bolts bolt on the axle going to trans is what broke.
it cut off bolts still in the thread
heres some pics sorry all i have is a phone thats why i cant type or take nice pics my fucking bad

yes that is a 3sge and yes you did break your axle.

GT axles are not as strong as GTS axles and 5th gen axles are even stronger
    than GTS axles.

I'm going to pull the passenger side axle on my 92 camry today so I'll take some
    pictures

wow holy shit LOL i didn't know the 3sfe had enough torque to do that. but damn. it's okay, i've had a 2 day old axle snap out of my trans before...good thing i still had the old axle in the trunk

to replace the passenger side axle

    - drain tranny fluid

    - remove cotter pin and associated ring that prevents the axle bolt from turning
then you need a 30mm socket to remove the axle nut
    [IMG]

    - then I like to remove the caliper although you may be able to remove the axle without
removing the caliper but I want to remove the hub and spindle so I removed the caliper
    [IMG]

    - then I remove the 2 bolts that connect the hub to the strut
    [IMG]

now you should be able to remove the axle from the hub.

    - undo the 2 bolts that attach the axle to the block and you should
be able to pull the other end of the axle out of the tranny. You may
want to remove the side to side cross member for easier access.

poor 3sfe. he didn't break the axle. he sheared the 6 tiny bolts. very easily done in an old fe that either has improper bolts or has worn engine mounts that allow far too much vibration
