And it's back!! Looking pretty good too I might add.

Only two weeks since the crash and it's good to go again. I had it out to practice last tuesday and it's running great. This morning I had it in the fair days parade here.

Here's some pics of the new fender reinforcements - they work really well. I had been planning to add them for a long time. After my crash I realized that they would help avoid a repeat by adding more protection to the fenders, bumper, and front wheels.

And here you can see the result.

    Basically, no more of this:

That great and it did its job eh!

Allways nice when you have an idea and fab something up and it works. It may hae saved you from having to replace another control arm and it kept you in the race and got you second place and you had the added bonus of getting to teach another driver about the advantages of keeping their line and probably all the other driver also learned that it is wise to give you a little extra room.

The bottom pic is from the big crash - the other guy's tire got wedged in there. He couldn't get free, so that was a big factor in the crash. That's why I added the reinforcements to both sides. And that fender is still on the car (a bit straighter now though).

I weighed an 88 GTS column for you, 24.5 lb complete with
    plastic covers and wiring harness
    [IMG]

I also weighed a 92 Camry column for you it has tilt but no
telescopic on it. Its missing its plastic cover and disconect
at the bottom end and wiring harness. It weighed in at 17 lb.
Probably 19 lb with the missing bits.

I'd be looking for the newest junker I could find. Car
manufacturers are allways trying to reduce weight to improve
MPG so I bet a 2000+ column would be even lighter.

Still got your dash? it weighs 15.5+ LB with its wiring harness
    [IMG]

Theirs also a bar under the dash. Since you have a roll cage you may not
need this bar if you get rid of the dash. The dash bolts to this bar. it weighs
    10.5 LB.

We definately didn't get Corona diesels here. Where'd you dig up that pic from?

ST165, I'd be worried about fitting a newer column in, with an ST column I know it would fit. But I have looked at other cars, tercels or corollas are a good bet for a no frills column, so I'll be checking them too. They are very similar, especially the corollas. And if it weighs 24lbs, its gotta go! The dash is long gone, and I think the dash bar will be staying for now, though i didn't know it was that heavy. It's just a good place to mount the steering column to.

And some random pics, prep work from 2009.

    From my private stash hehe

The dash bar, column & firewall blanket should have gone long ago. There should be a bar across the front of your rollcage.
Just make up a splined shaft and attach it from the U-joint to the steering wheel with a bearing bolted to the rollcage bar
    ie
    [IMG]

It will also allow you to move the seat back a foot or two and get better weight distibution

Those gen2 lower brackets are also way too heavy, make them from steel and save a few lb's

What length track you run? We were doing 13's on 600m oval (300hp@600kg= 155km/h in 2nd gear)
