Just wondering if anyone could help me to get to the gauges in the dash. Wanting to put these in.. Is there a method to getting to it without having to dissemble most of the dash. I have also got to stick a new custom front bumper which should be fun as well. Think its going to be a long day when I do it..
Nope. Minimum need to remove driver lower bezel (under steering column or just loosen it), hazard and defroster switches, black trim there, then remove the cluster, after that remove the clear cover, remove & replace the gauge faces, and reinstall it all.
HAHA, they were $125AUS which isnt bad.. Plus the graphics are made by me. I can give you the guys email that makes them.. Pretty sure he's from overseas maybe? hahaha Also you can design your own, it doesn't have to be to those colours, and I'm pretty sure they would have MPH surely.. haha
So I have finally taken the dash out and in. Very Very easy job.. Took about 20mins working out where everything screwed in. Also recommend taking the drivers seat out for ease of access depending on how cramped up you wanna get. I like a bit of space when I can make it available, not like working in the motor bay hahaha. Also the the original plastic dials in the the dash are very easy to do as well. One tip though when doing the main Speed and Taco, make sure you take a photo where the needle sits. Than with you thumb and index finger twist the needle anti-clockwise and they should lift off. But very very easy to break this.. Specially if its old as the plastic over time becomes very crumbly.. Mine where all good, also best thing to do with this sorta stuff is to take you time with it.. Was a good time to get the dash lights fixed up as well, as I had some blown lights which needed to be replaced so got the 2 birds with one stone trick happening. Only problem I'm stuck with going with new LED dash lights is I have 2 lights which seem to stay on all the time now since the LED's went in.. Thinking that maybe it could have a resistance issue with the LED's being a lot lower resistance than the originals. But I am only guessing. Also with the combo of lights that come up, I think it usually means the alternator or battery have an issue. Not sure if its just the generic light code for electrical problem? Custom dials came as well, see below for the pics of it. Hope you enjoy. The big bill for going with all LED bulbs in the dash.
OMG!! the price on those LED's is INSANE!..unless thats for a bag of 5 or something...and still. -as far as them staying on, led's are pole specific. so you usually just have to turn them around in the socket. -the light you have circled is the door ajar light.
So basically that means that the positive and negative terminals LED side are around the wrong way... mmmh ok, ill try swapping them around, see if that fixes it. Yer for leds here there quite an expensive trip... its a shame...
but i love the dials......would love to get one with the site name on it....that would be awesome......
It looks a bit too shiny to me. Is it made from decent strong material? I had to change mine back because the custom one didn't stand the years and heat and started to bend and touch the needles :S
Yer its made from a plastic which is a couple of 3mm thick. Im not sure how long it will last. guess i just see how it goes.
What LED's you get? don't worry the multi head ones are $25ea here and I wish someone would make them available on the site. Got that guy's address, I'd like to make a custom set of TRD gauges going to 280km and the redline shifted up. Beware - your temp gauge redline is not correct and you will blow the gasket with it like that.
i get the 5smd ones........there like 2.99 shipped on ebay....just look up 5 smd led and you'll get a ton of choices.
