ok so my '89 gt-s has cc. it unfortunately does not work. now i know it will be hard to diagnose over the net, but maybe i can get an idea of common problems with the system. so far i have replaced the switch on both the steering wheel and the center console. the center console switch still lights up when pressed. no light comes on the dash (if there is one there?) i try to engage the set coast switch on the steering wheel and nothing. i guess it is either the box in the engine bay or maybe the computer that controls the cc. i have no idea where to start diagnosing after replacing the switches. i have no experience with cc systems at all. it would just be nice to either have it fixed or even taken out of the car. any help is appreciated. please go easy on me. im still learning! :p

I've never even tested to see if mine works but if someone posts how to remove it I would gladly like to know too. This is because I know I'll never use it so it's just extra weight.

I would suspect the unit in the engine bay first thing. Check if the vacuum line is still attached to the it..next make sure it isn't clogged. Next try banging around and lubing the unit. Then replace it. That is what fixed mine.

There is no light on the dash as far as I know, as long as the switch lights up then the control module is working I believe...you could always try another one but it is a bitch to get at as it is high up the passenger footwell.....and they don't generally go wrong

The cruise control has 2 switches. One on the steering wheel and one in the center console. The one in the center console has a light. This lighted switch will display cruise control problems. The cruise control has an ECU so it will display diagnostic codes through the switch light.

Check down in TECHNICAL under ST162 Body Electrical starting on page 58. I don't know why this forum is chopping off the right half of the page it must have a width limit or something but if you click on the links down in TECHNICAL you'll get the full pages
