    Hi.

As you may have seen elsewhere, I have just bought this Celica.

I have a workshop manual on order but of no help to me this weekend.

I have a charging system fault and am needing some troubleshooting information. Usually most workshop manuals have a page or two of tests you can do. Can anyone help with a scan of this page(s) for me?

    It is a 1988 Celica ST162 with 3SGE engine.

Thanks for any help, or any advice on common charging system faults would also be appreciated.

    Oops, I should have explained.

Battery charge light is on all the time, battery is not charging at all, with a multimeter there is no increase in volts when the engine is running or revving. Alternator is near new. Fuses all checked.

Actually a couple of warning lights came on with the battery light (demister and tail light warnings) but someone told me this is normal for Toyotas when they are not charging.

    Thank you.

sounds like the alternator man, or you have a short. If theres a short it could of ruined ur alternator too.

wut you could do is test all the fuses with an amp meter. But there is a chance the the short is before the fuse box which is what happened to me so there was nothing abnormal when i checked all the connections. There was a right up somewhere on celitech.com. Im gonna have to find it, i'll post it later.

btw, my fogs where at fault, they stoped working and so did my problem. I dont know if they burnt out or if there was no connection.

Thanks for the responses. After checking all fuses and a quick check of the related wiring I removed the alternator and took it to an auto electrician for testing. He said it was dead so I got a replacement alternator and this has solved the problem.

I have had alot of problems with my Celi and the Alternator- The culprit for mine was the grounding wires- and also the alternator wire that is running from the fuse block.

Sweet glad you got it fixed! I wonder how it went dead so quickly if you said it was fairly new.....
