hey i was wondering if someone could give me a quick run through of how to remove the black center console trim to replace the cd player? do you need to remove the center console to replace the cd player or what? thanks!

It is a little more complex than that. There are a few things that need to be removed if you want to do it without bending/breaking.

    1. Remove the center console piece that goes around gear shifter. Should be a couple screws on either side, and a few inside the storage box/arm rest.

    2. Remove the plastic cover beneath the steering wheel, the speaker should come along with it. There are a few screws along the top underneath the instrument cluster, and some on the bottom corners as well. The light reostat will have to be unplugged, and the hood release removed. Remove the glove box and the speaker on that side as well.

    3. Now only the center trim remains, there are screws at the top corners and screws on the sides near the bottom. When the screws are out tilt it forward, and then disconnect the cig lighter and cruise switch if you have one there. Then lift up to clear the gear shifter and you're done.

You could avoid some of the steps if you undo just a few screws, and push things out of the way. Hope this helps.

try three down each side, and two in the box (you will have to move each seat full forward and full back to reach them)
you will have to remove the glovebox too (via two screws on the hinge) and then the 10mm bolt holding the bottom bar across (or you could remove the entire bar but its easy to bend out of the way by just removing the bolt on the left [/quote]
the deck itself is easy with just four screw facing straight once you get the bezel out of the way ;)

It's super easy though...really...just a bunch of screws...

Better than clips that can be broken easily!

Do you really have to restate everything that I just said schmoot?

And all those black screws do make for an easy job - just put less back in to make it faster next time :)

I can do it in 5 minutes... but I have been through 3 celicas, all of which I did work behind the dash on cd players, heater motor/controller, v1 install, cluster light replacement, harness removal, etc... I spend too much time on this car.

i am thinking about getting this for it for some low bass that my car is missing. i don't want brain rattling bumps, i just want something with a hit or 2. what do you think? i want to put it under the driver seat. and then maybe another under the passenger!

Never tried them but they should help the base a bit. if your going to put them under the front seats then you will be taking away any space that passengers(midgets) in the back seats may have had for foot room.

eh no one wants to ride in my car anyways. im 6'3 and have the seat pretty far back. my girlfriend prefers her car to mine because its newer and not so red. i really just want something simple for bass. i figured something like this would be good range, cheap and easy to conceal without taking up my trunk. although i am trying to get one off of ebay for like 75 which they retail for 150 so if i end up wanting a second one then i won't luck out again. oh well. se la vee

Man, some good 6x9's will provide the same bass as those things... don't spend $280 on two of those when you can invest in a decent 4 channel amp and some nice 6x9 speakers for your back deck.....

i know i know. it would be awesome if i could do something like that. but my neighborhood aint the greatest. my tape player was stolen out of my cressida when i first moved in. a freaking tape player man. i thought i was the only one for sure who would want that shit. nope. jacked out of my car along with my $10 watch. come on now. didnt take my change or my meds or anything. freaking bastards. the celica at least has an alarm and if i keep most of the stuff i do want to have hidden, then it will be out of sight out of mind so to speak. unless they are hunting. plus this is a little cheaper than the amp and speakers. although i would love to mod something to the rear deck. maybe when i move again. anyways does anyone know anything about alarms? i need to install my new stereo but am afraid to disconnect the battery and fuck with the alarm if i do. any help is most appreciative
