Hey! I'm pretty new to working on cars so forgive me if this is a simple fix or what not. So, my '87 Celica gt-s has lately been deciding when it want to start or not. Sometimes I hop in and it starts just instantly and just fine, and other times I'll have to turn the key a few times to get it to start. To be more descriptive, it doesn't even want to crank, it just makes a little buzzing noise like its trying to get it cranking but to no avail. Depending on the cars mood it could take between 1 second to 10 minutes of turning the key to have it start up. There have been a couple times where it will finally start cranking but it kinda struggles to stay on, to where i have to pump the gas a bit to give it some fuel. Not too sure whats going on here. If anyone could help me out or wants more detail on wants going on let know! Thank you!
Sounds like your car hasn't had the starter relay mod yet. Should fix your problem for only a few bucks in parts
alright guys heres an update. finally wired up this starter mod but Im still having the same problem. I double checked the connections and stuff and made sure its all plugged in right, although the only differences is a used electrical tape to tape the relay on and tape the ground wire to the chassis, making sure the metal is touching obviously. Also I turned my radio off before and now it wont turn on, so idk about that one. any more suggestions are appreciated. thank you!
Update again, Got it to work. Apparently grounding it on the chassis wasnt enough so I grounded it to the negative terminal and it jumped to life.
