CA is killing my baby...

So I just moved from Colorado to California, and as soon as I got here, my car started crapping out on me. I've never had ANY of these problems before.

First, it has major issues just starting. When I roll over the ignition, it will attemp to start, but wont. It takes about three tries just to get it to idle (and when it does, it's doing it a lot higher than normal, somewhere around 2-2500 rpms).

Also, randomly, it will start pumping out grey/blue smoke from the tailpipe! I have no idea why, but it can't be good... It does it on the highway sometimes and pretty much fills my car with noxious fumes. Oh great...

It seems like I've lost some of the 'kick' to my car as well... I mean, it runs a lot better due to the low altitude, but it seems like it's not running as well as it should be.

Perhaps the ethanol fuel has something to do with it? Who knows.... Suggestions?

    blue smoke is burning oil

which could mean a few things, headgasket, o-rings....

well your car was set up for a higher altitude meaning less air (thinner air) to a thicker air zone is making your car use to much gas with the air that its getting. you either need to reset your ECU and let it relearn for the lower ALT. and or swap your injecters to a differant set. that use less gas.

the performance loss if bc your pretty much partialy flooding the motor. and causeing the smoke to some extent.

and as rye said it could also be burning oil

    like they said ^

your car needs some adjustments for the low altitude. and why's your front tire look so far back?

Hmm, well I think I'll take it in to get an overall tune up and specifically ask to get my idle adjusted. Is checking on the gaskets/rings something that's relatively easy to do? I just put another 1.8k into my car, and I REALLY don't feel like spending more than I have to...

Oh, and for the front tire, I think it's just the angle of the picture.

You could do a compression test....that'll tell ya if your rings are f'ed..

Mine is like that too, but it has a bent control arm. I'd check it just to be sure.

Its a really strait forward job. (the control arm) a few bolts and some wiggling. I cant remember what I did with the pinch bolt. Its really not bad. Getting a new control arm will probably bring your tire back to its real spot.
You will notice better gas mileage, corrected steering, etc. Get it aligned after.

New control arm cost me 25 bucks for my gts
