The more discriptive Brake write up.

    *Pads*
-Metallic - these are typically race only pads. they have more metal than anything else and tear into rotors. these will dust very badly and cause rust in your rims. (looks like nearly full silver metal pad)

-Semimetallic - these are your general everyday use brake pads. typically giving a life of 30K miles and eating rotors in the process. now these are typically only used on heavy trucks because they need the extra grip of the metal to slow them down. these dust quite a bit and cause rust if not cleaned regularly. (looks like flakes of silver metal in the pad)

-Organic - these are used by companies like EBC and most OEMs. EBC uses these as semi race pads all the way around for a car where OEMs only uses these on the backs of vehicles. organic brakes don't last long but they don't tear up rotors at all. these are a low dust style pad, no rust to worry about. (no flakes of any kind)

-Semiceramic - these are more commonly used today than any other pad. giving very long life, 60+K mile, and no dusting effects or rusting. these also offer very quiet braking and better heat disappation than any of the above pads. (gold or bronze colored flakes)

-Ceramic - only for the better of all the OEMs like lexus, infinity, and such. these are a very expensive pad. they last longer than any other material, disappate the most heat, have no dusting or rusting at all, and are very quiet. hawk, akebono and OEs use these style pad. (lots of gold flakes)

-Carbon - this is a race only pad. they disappate tons of heat and bite harder than hell. they cause dusting and rust and are currently not available to the public.

    *Calipers*
Fenco - generally found at autozone and advanced auto, these calipers are the cheapest of the lot for aftermarket calipers. they have all been cleaned and rebuilt, but that's all you get. plan on having rusted calipers in less than a month and possible replacements soon to follow.

Napa - Napa actually makes their own calipers. they are a little more than fenco in price and quality but are still rebuilt. they come uncoated and can cause some problems in the future. they should rust up in 3 months.

Carquest - Carquest makes their own calipers as well. they are a very good quality and i've seen very little problems from them. they usually come coated.

King - these are the best aftermarket calipers i've found. they come with a nice gold finish that won't rust up at all. they are loaded with very nice and long lasting internals.

    *Rotors*
-Standard - your run of the mill 20 dollar rotor. they aren't very hard and a bunch are pre-warped. they don't last very long, glaze up if you are at all hard on them, and wear quickly. servicable.

-Brembo - top of the line factory replacement rotor. they are very hard and disappate heat very well for a solid rotor. they can glaze if you are very hard on them which will cause an annoying squeeking unless turned out. they last a very long time without warping. servicable.

-Slotted - the purpose of slotted rotors is to cut the pad every time a slot crosses it. what this does is increase braking because you constantly have a new pad surface. not survicable.

-Cross Drilled - the purpose of these is to disappate heat faster than normal rotors. sadly, while these work very well they crack when over loaded or over heated. not survicable.

-Drilled and Slotted - the best of both worlds. these disappate heat and cut the pads very well. they also share the curse of drilled rotors with the cracking. not servicable.

-2 peice Rotors - typical 2 peice rotors will be either drilled, slotted, or both. the rotor disk and rotor hat bolt together making them easily changed or allowing you to change diameter.
