Body Roll?

I'm at stock height, turn sharp, ass drag (yay fwd) and find my front is scraping where the lip is, based on whichever way I turn.

seeing as I like to blow money down the drain I am working on fwd > awd conversion and during this process want to get rid of my body roll/hoping to trick the computer into giving more power to the rear wheels once completed.

any suggestions on sway bars and the such that may be a good choice? :p

are you seriously doing a fwd-awd conversion?

    yeah, i thought why not...

if the opportunity to grab a running all-trac presented itself I would but since there is a lot more non running completely stripped besides what i need all-trac's in a 30 mile radius of me, I might as well just go that route and buy a freakin first gen VW rabbit or Geo to get me from work and back while my car is out of commision during this process... plus I get the oppurtunity to say I bought the car FWD and made it AWD

well if that's what you want to do.
it would be much easier to buy a not running AT and fix that.
just as an FYI there has been 2 celica AWD conversions that have been successful to my knowledge and neither of those were 4th gens.

ouch, well heres to hoping it works... its a long way from now tho as it will be done (or tried) after the purchase of the new engine and during the swap... sadly still no response from Toyosport about front clips tho, but thats a whole 'nother discussion.

Long story short, It won't work.

Jeremy (turbotrdcelica) from the old boards, attempted this...it worked very briefly, then fell apart, the chassis couldn't handle the torque that was being generated at the rear tires and pretty much all fell apart...and he was a licensed certified mechanic....

your front lip is scraping do to blowing shocks more in likely...I can get into the corners pretty deep with mine and no scraps....-and your conversion is gonna cost alot more then just buying a awd car....plus a compromise in safety too..Best of luck thou if you do, do it. 8)

do you wanna turn it into a drifter?

Well, to be more specific, you're springs are causing you to hit your front lip on turns...

The shocks just ease the return bounce... :D

But yeah...might as well get an alltrac and disconnect the front drive axles....it'd be much safer and more stable.

ya thats what i wanna do, or for touge runs... I figured AWD would be the better way to go as ive heard FWD to RWD is a PITA and shouldnt even be tried.

but it looks like I may just have to go with a turbo fwd and save up for a 92 or 93 rx-7 or drive backwards/rainy tracks .

edit: thanks for the info everyone! ill check into getting some new springs and shocks

If you have all this money you can throw in, why don't you get an MR2? It's a waste of drivetrain if you're just getting an AWD car to only use the rear for the power. Unless you have patience AND some money, that FD3S is going to be hard to maintain EVEN as a non-turbo model. The most reliable Rx-7 from people's experiences have been the FC3S model (2nd gen). If you really want a drift and touge monster, might as well get an AE86 from someone that doesn't know about the "drift" craze enough to inflate the price. easy to mod, and EVERY suspension mod is noticed.

Back on topic, check your shocks because they might be blown. GR-2's can be bought for dirt cheap nowadays. Also, throw on some sway bar bracket bushings...you won't regret it.

what touge??? arent you in cali.... they have no touge there....(could be wrong but dont thinks me is).....

also to note very hard to find a AE86 due to drift craze and initial d... if you can find one its usually a coupe and those handle alot differently then the hatch

    hatch > coupe...always.... :D

Yes I am from cali and there are mountains to touge, or pass, through. Actually the difference isn't too drastic. Hatches were a little rear heavy, hence their reason to be so popular with drifting so early on. There IS a reason coupes were also offered in the GTS trim. Not to bash on the hatch, but if the coupe and hatch were to have the same suspension setup/same driver/ etc, the coupe would be slightly nimbler through the turns because of the lessened rear weight bias. But then again the difference is so minute that you might not even be able to tell the difference.

there is a guy near me with an ae86 hatch, nice car but I like the look of a bit longer of a car, I mulled it over and ill just go for another S13 or if I find a good deal, an S14... but I'm still wanting to get this car completed the way I want first.

speaking of my 89 240, I found someone that has my old car, engine went kaboom and he bought it from the junker, I thought it was crushed so yay for happy endings.

I dun like RWD. I wouldn't mind having a drift slut if we had a track here, but we don't, so it's useless to me. AWD would be fun though.

still no wreck of the MR2 yet :(. Although we're going to a drag track on the weekend and apparently the track is a bit sketchy at the end so who knows...I'm taking up my 5g to see how it does vs. my friends 5g and a Prelude and Integra from our local club.
