Thankfully I have a full size 13" spare. Looks funny with tuner lugs but also looks kinda cool. Makes me want to go to smaller tires like 15" And thankfully I was literally 1000ft before an exit when it did happen. Looks like the sidewalls gave out, may have hit something.
more importantly what is the YEAR of that tire? look for the DOT XXXX XXXX #### code on one sidewall (could be the inside or outside, but not both sides of the tire) X's for whatever letters (don't need it), #'s for the date code. #### = first two numbers is the week of the year, last two number is the year. sidewalls should not just give up like that...
They are Sunew 205/40/R17's. Shouldn't be too old. What I'm theorizing is that I may have hit a sharp rock or nail and lost air pressure. Low profile tires without air pressure = bad.
that too. lucky you didn't pop the beads before you got off the highway. happened to my 195/55/15 with 20psi. i was trying to get to the gas station when it popped out :s stay safe!
Happened to me once with my old civic...I had a lot of camber on the front wheels and the tire was totally bald on the inside...
Happened to me when I was in a honda meet too xD But I changed the wheel on the highway to the spare thin tire
yep lack of pressure. i think the biggest question was when have you checked the pressure last? and i'm glad you're ok. and the car.
I check the pressure everytime I fill up. Speaking of pressure, I went on an onsite yesterday to setup someones computer and she lived on this awful dirt rocky road. Of course later that night my front right tire was flat. I filled it up with my portable tire inflator and went to Discount Tire to get it fixed. They submerged it in water for me and found that the inner sidewall had a gash in it. So I had to buy yet ANOTHER tire. Though this time I'm getting my company to pay for it.
