Can someone tell me how I can bleed the air from my coolant system on my 1989 toyota celica gts? And if I leave the valve to the heater core open or closed.

    Thanks!

    Burping the system...

I've used various methods...probably best to keep the heater valve open to ensure full circulation.
Most recently (last weekend when I finished up the valve job on my GTS) I simply filled it up to the max and started it up with cap off, and waited for the t-stat to open. Then I kept adding a bit as needed and squeezed the upper, lower and heater hoses to get the last bit of bubbles out. I've put a few miles on it since and the system is maintaining the proper level so far.
If everything is in order these cars will generally burp themselves through the coolant recovery system. If you don't get good results there's the huge Lisle funnel that attaches to the top of the radiator, or you can modify a cap to do something similar.
