Hey guys.. Just have a quick question. I was at the junkyard removing a mint 3s-ge moter. I was trying to remove the axles and I had a problem. I cant get them to come out of the tranny.. Are there any special ways to remove them. The engine is ready to be pulled out, I would have the moter right now, but "they" kicked me out because the junkyard was closing. In any calse, just wondering how to get the axles out of the tranny. I was using a crowbar and a flathead screw driver to remove it, and it moved about a quarter of an inch and wont go any more. Anyway, ttyl -Gabe
Well you are doing everything right did you remove all the Nuts from the end of the axle- MAY JUST NEED TO PUT A BIG GRUNT BEHIND IT!
the axle nuts are off, the balljoints have been taken appart and all thats left are the axles hanging on ither side of the tranny. I have some pictures.. I will try and post them when I get them from my brother. Any other subjestions would be great.. Also, I dind't drain the fluid in the tranny.. could it be part of my problem? Thanks Gabe
Also, I have one more question.. I dind't remove the links to the shifter from the tranny. I was looking under the car and I dind't reallly see anything and was too lazy too keep looking around.. I thought I would pull the moter out and cut whats ever attached to the tranny.. Anyhow, whats the best way to go about removing the linkage. Should I just disconncet it from the inside of the car, or should I remove it from the tranny it self.. and where on the tranny would the linkage be located?? Thanks again -Gabe
axles... i put something between the tranny and axle and hit it with a metal mallet we call it thors hammer at my friends shop haha watch out for the seals though
well.. sounds like I was removing the axles right.. guess you just gotta use allot of muscle.. For the linkage mounds.. I guess I will just look for what you (86celicast) were talking about. Thanks for the help guys.. will post pics when engine swap is all done.. Hopefully no one will take my moter at the junkyard.. wont be abtle to go back to the yard till the weekend. -Gabe
Did you manage to get this engine out?? The linkage is held in by 2 clips that pull straight up...you'll probably need a pair of pliers or something for this... I still have to take out some axles on the the engine that the guy is picking up tommorow....
I managed to get one of the axles out by ussing a mallet and a crowbar.. I ended up pulled the engine out with the other axle still in the tranny. I am doing my engine swap this sunday (cross my fingers) Just need to get my car towed to my house by tonight. So you say there are two clips. Where is the best place I can acess them, and what do they look like. Thanks -Gabe
They're right on top of the manual transmission, almost directly under your distributor cap... They hold the cable onto the bracket that's mounted to the tranny... They're usually stuck pretty good so you have to pull hard I can take a pic if that still doesn't help describe it!
well theres the pins that hold the ends of the cables to the selector bracket (name?) those you can pop out with some needlenose pliers. the little clips that hold the cable housing onto the tranny are just below the distributor cap, we used a flat screwdriver and needlenose pliers to pop those two out.
Ah, You are talking about the linkage for the transmission. I looked in my book and they showed that there were two cotter pins to remove fallowed by two clips on the tranny. They were pretty easy to locate after I looked in my manual. I thought you were talking about the drive shafts My mistake.. Anyway, I got my car towed today... Turns out I wont have time to change the engine this weekend, so i'm doing it next weekend. There is no shortage of work on this car though, so I will be able to keep busy during the week. Ill post picture when it's all finished Anyway, dinner time.. thanks for the help. -Gabe
