    Starter mod:
-Replace the OEM B+ starter wire with a new oxygen free wire. 8g or 10gauge should be fine (8gauge would be better).
-Install a new 30amp relay as outlined on this picture linked. Over time the signal wire builds resistance and starting the car becomes troublesome.
    Starter relay mod

    Ground fix:
    -Called the Big 3 Upgrade.
-Install new ground wire from chassis to engine block
-Install new ground from chassis to transmission housing
-Install new B+ in conjunction with old cable from alternator over to ALT fusible link.

When I did my big 3 upgrade on the '87 it helped greatly. I had no more dimming lights even with my sound system pounding. I ran a 1/0 oxygen free cable from the strut tower to the alternator mounting bracket (chassis->engine block), from the other strut tower to the transmission housing to the starter/transmission housing (used a starter bolt, transmission -> chassis ground) and a 4gauge from alternator to fusible link.

@james, my hids also stopped working normally so i had to make my own harness for it. similar to the starter relay mod, except instead of the trigger wire being from the ignition, it's from the headlight switch. it works great and i can even start the hids up while the car is off! :D
