i doubt its the 02 as well, try unplugging your cold start injector as well(just a temporary measure) maybe the cold start injector is causing a flooding, if you unplug it it will be harder to start but once its warmed up should be fine if that is the problem
hmm, ive experienced two clogged cats, both of them the car could idle but would not rev up(though it would not die) you couldnt get it over 2k or so rpm and then it just struggle to all hell. easiest way to tell if you have a clogged cat is to unbolt the pipe from the manifold(or anywhere before the cat) and take it for a test drive if you have no problems then yah its definately the cat.
k then its not that as i can start and rev the car all i want (being mindful of the frequent bog out). another freind suggested the clutch sensor but i dont think that would cause a bog out.
ya know i dont think this is it but i havent changed the air filter in about 2 months. (its a lil dirty but not much). any chance that may be the culprit
oh and on the cold start thing do i even need one lol i live in arizona where its never below 80 degrees (right now being summer its never below 100). so my engine while not always scorching hot is always warm.
for the air filter disconnect the entire box and put a paper face mask (like you see the people in China always wear) over it or something breathable like that. maybe post up a coupla engine shots if you have any. someone might be able to spot something out of place or wrong?
does anyone have the toyota manual that shows the cold start injector test? im thinking his might be going bad, maybe its leaking and flooding the car.
i will take some pics tomorrow if the cold start doesnt make a difference and also try to record a small vid that way you can see/hear the engine while this is happening and mabey that will help some. also on a side note if the cold start injector was stuck (in what i am calling the ON position) then wouldnt the car be overly easy to start so that i wouldnt have to work @ starting the car? just curious
if it was stuck on...it would overfuel the engine and make it run uber rich and yeah it wouldnt run right. starting wise thou....mhhhmm if the motor was warmed up..I think it would make starting worse. and yeah the neutral safety switch wont cause the motor to bog.
just a note if i take out the spark plugs and they are fouled via gasoline then the cold start thing could be the issue right? going to check all this tomorrow but i am wondering if its not fouling my plugs.
Did you ever get a timing light on the car and make sure the timing was correct with the new distributor? Just checkin here.
well bought a new fuel filter today and still having the issue. crazyachmed: i havent taken a timing light to it as i dont have the $100 to have a shop time it and i dont have a light. although if it seems to idle fine and dies out @ random or when gas is applied why would that be timing (asking not critisizing)? All i have done is base time it by setting 0tdc and rotor to 1 on the cap. now not sure if this helps @ all but if i let it idle i hear the exhaust note change a bit (it sputters kinda like the car is starving for something *not sure what anymore*) and the rpm fluxes a lil. and eventually it dies out. malodin: I did pull the cold start off and that doesnt seem to be the issue either. I put it in a glass jug and it came on when the car tried to turn over but stopped once the car was running. and never turned on again unless i tried to restart the car.
