89 gt-s noise, starting issue, possible bhg

ok so my 89 gt-s 5 speed has been having odd starting issues ever since i purchased it back in 2007. well i was talking to a friend at work, describing the symptoms of the starting issue and he told me the next time it happens, to put the accelerator to the floor and start it up. he said most likely it has something to do with your fuel injection and its flooding the engine. so of course my non starting issue not related to the starter as my battery, coil, plugs, starter and wires are all good, not to mention i have done the relay mod, acts up and i put the accelerator to the floor, turn it over and she fires up like nothing. so this is like a miracle right? except now i need to diagnose the fuel problem. any ideas what could be flooding the engine? i dont pump the accelerator before turning over or anything. and the fuel pump looks nice and new.

so the noise i am experiencing now is a high pitched squeak/whine/squeal from behind the dash. its like letting the air out of a filled up balloon. I have not heard this noise till just a few days ago. i was driving and my car went right up to the red. pulled over and found almost no fluid in the radiator or the overflow. so i filled it up, checked the oil to make sure it wasnt low and im not heating up the block. all was well. now i get that sound when i am at a stop and my foot is on the brake. take my foot off the brake but the sound is still there. no water leaks from under the car or the hoses. my tstat and water pump plus hoses will be changed soon, so i am hoping this may resolve the problem. my worst fear though is that it may be the head gasket. no fluids in the tank, and now a high pitched sound from behind the dash. it is similar symptoms to a bhg on a cressida. i can't see any blue smoke from the exhaust and my oil doesnt seem to have water in it. still a chocolaty dark brown. anyone else have that kind of sound? any help would be appreciated! the sound is intermittent too. not always there.

Your starting / flooding issues sounds very similar to something that affected my friend's 165. I can't recall if he said it was the cold start injector or all of his fuel injecter "O" rings. Either way, the "O" rings were deteriorated and seeping fuel. Once he replaced them, the problem went away. Just a suggestion.

Undo the two bolts holing in your cold start injector and put it in a small cup, turn her over and check if it's intermittent or constantly flowing.

Next pull out your fuel rail buddy.
it's not all that difficult, I've become quite skilled at it, only takes me about 10min to take it out, takes a little longer to put back in and line up the injectors, i advise using a small mirror to help line up.
Disconnect the battery, remove the valve cover, the fuel damper and the three bolts holding the rail in place.
it should be quite evident if your seals are stuffed or not, still O-rings don't cost you much and they give you a little piece of mind, you may even want to get the injectors reco'd while they're out, cost me $20ea here in oz.
still without reco-ing them and just replacing the seals you should have some improvement.

thanks for the input. i may have to see if i can do that one of these days. i added some more coolant to the radiator which is nice and brown and murky looking now...at timee the overflow tank looked clear...anyways adding more coolant seemed to make the whinning/squeeking from behind the dash go away. and the car has been starting great ever since i started the car with my foot on the gas. i only did it the 1 time too. so i am really puzzled. ordered new radiator hoses. then i got to thinking about the other water hoses. there is one that leads from behind the end of the top hose and looks like it goes to the firewall. then a smaller hose from there into behind the firewall. both are looking well past their prime and a little swelled up. and almost all of the vaccume hoses are cracked and brittle. so i got lots of hoses to change out over the next few months. but the car is starting much better. i cleaned off all kinds of gunked up oil. i need to take some more recent bay shots of the damn thing. oh and my oil is a nice chocolaty brown. not a greyish brown like a milkshake. its still deep brown. i didnt check the plug wells with the plugs out to see if any coolant had rushed in there. but when i was filling up the radiator some more, it took about a cup more fluid or so and it bubbled up almost everytime i added a little more in. i didnt check the overflow for bubbles, guess i should go back out there in a little while. but yeah im thinking worst care scenario is that i have a bhg, which is fine cuz this 20 year old princess needs more love than what i am giving her at the moment. if it comes to that then i will have it replaced or have a crate engine installed and go from there. thanks for the help guys. anyone know if the vaccume hoses from toyota are still in production?
