5th gen lowering springs

I know that 5th gen coil-overs fit the 4th gen celica. I've also read that 5th gen lowering springs fit the 4th gen also but you have to change the upper mounds to 5th gen mounts. Is this information correct that i've found and can I put 5th gen springs on my car withought changing the upper mounts?

Anyway, this is something else I read. I read that the rear springs 5th gen springs will fit fine and the front 5th gen springs wont fit because they are tapered at the top. The springs I was looking at (picture below) are not tapered at the top.. so would they fit?

    What are your guys thoughts?

my buddies 5th gen lowering springs were tapered and looked like they had to be that way so idk...try checking part numbers?

lol the 5th gen SLEEVEOVERS will fit, which is basically a cheap imitation coilover ;p

Still...I cannot find 1 example with install pics of anybody trying to build on 5th gen coilovers or springs onto a 4th gen...

So does it mean it is a bunch of crap?

You can put a 5th gen suspension on a 4th gen. But I'm not sure about the springs from a 5th gen on a 4th gen suspension.

That sounds a little more plausable.

Heres pics of my 5th gen coil-overs on my '87 GTS, and the Cusco camber plate they attach to.

Your camber is set on racing :D :D

But those are standard 5th gen coilovers as you buy them in a store?

I know tein makes great coilovers including edfc (inside damper control)...

That would be a great setup for my 4th gen then..

Well I guess I will just buy them and see what happens; I could always resell them if they don’t fit.

Also, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the measurements across the top of the stock Celica springs are. Just measure right across or you can use the formula Radius x 2 :p

The measurements of one of the front and rear springs would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Yea these are standard Drop-Zone coil-overs, but they work incredibly well on the track! I can't wait to get some Ground-Control units with higher spring rates, which should make this thing a handling beast.

I might have some springs somewhere I'll look for them thursday.

btw, Tein is a complete system, so not only springs, but the whole leg...would those 5th gen legs fit a 4th gen?

If you get the spacer from 935motorsports It will. Or if you make your own.

Kinda behind in posting this comment, but on my '87 GTS, the lowering springs I just removed, the fronts look identical to the ones pictured. The rears on the other hand, are tapered at the top to fit the smaller rear upper mount. You may need something different for your rear setup!

I read on one of the old Celica websites that it's the other way around. In any case, I’m going to the wrecker this weekend to pick up some final parts for my Celica. I know they have a 5thgen Celica there and I doubt the suspension parts have been taken off since I saw it last. Ill take the upper mounts along with any hardware I take off. First off ill try and fit lowering springs with the 4th gen components without modifying anything.
    Thanks

Yea the upper mounts on my '87 are smaller diameter than the mounts on the strut, so the upper part of the lowering spring is tapered. Like I said the fronts are the same top to bottom, so they should be just fine. Biggest problem your most likely going to run into, is the fact that the rear shock towers are really small, kinda why the mounts are really small.

Hope this will clear it up.
The pic of the one strut with the coilover is a cheapo brand coilover set, I still have to grind off the existing spring perches & weld a new flat custom spring perch to the struts & order the Eibach ERS springs.
