As our cars get older it will be harder to find specific parts so this topic will list interchangeable/alternative parts Front hub & steering knuckle Any 4th gen front hub is interchangeable with any other. Some are 4 bolt and some are 5 bolt but they can be swapped. Any 4th gen steering knuckle is interchangeable with any other. The only option here is for an ABS sensor. ST165 ignitor ST162 use the same ST162 wheel bearing ST182 use the same ST202 use the same ST165 Rear Half Shaft ST185's use the same shaft ST165 Diff Mount ST185 & ST205 use the same mount ST165 Rear Diff ST185 rear diff (some are LSD) ST205 rear diff (all are LSD) ST165 transmission ST185 trans ST205 trans ST165 Gas Tank None your screwed ST165 Trans to Diff Drive Shaft ST185 Drive shaft ST165 AFM A GTS AFM will run the engine. In the summer I will see how well the car drives with one.
I got an alternator off a 3S-FE camry for my 3S-GE gts and it worked...lower amperage but it does work
Well i found out that the 5s-fe flywheel will bolt right up to the 3s-ge crank. Needed it b/c i am using the 5s-fe tranny and the 3s-ge flywheel is slightly smaller than the 5s-fe.
Several parts from the mk1 and mk2 Camry are interchangable. The drivetrain and suspension of these cars are very similar to the mk4 Celica. These parts I know for certain can be interchanged: Rear wheel bearing assembly - from mk2 v6 camry - fits GT-S (5 on 100) - not sure if the standard 4cyl mk2 wheel bearing will work, but the v6 camry bearing does Front brake calipers - from mk1 camry - fits all ST, GT and GT-S I hope to find more parts that work as these camrys are very common in wrecking yards.
Anyone know of an alternate switch that can replace the driver's window toggle? Here's mine: I've never come across one of these in the salvage yards that didn't look just like this one. (For those that don't know, the actual toggle switch extended from that little T-shaped piece of plastic recessed into the left switch; an incredibly flimsy design that apparently always broke.) I got an assembly from a regular GT, but it's actually not the same as the convertible! (Notice in my photo that the convertible does not have a lock button.) To add insult to injury, the internals of the switch are different too!
MK3 Supras are the same... As are the alternators. You can also use a gen 5 Celica alternator in a pinch, the clip that locks the big plug into it is in the wrong place, so it doesn't actually snap in. I've had one in my car for about a year now and it hasn't fallen out....
If you just need to roll the window up without having to use the little cheap nub just dissemble the door panel and remove the automatic lock assembly. Underneath the drivers side door switch theres a little plastic tab that prevents it from being pushing up. Break that piece off and you'll instantly have automatic up on the window and never have to use that stupid little tab again.
:facepalm An excellent suggestion! Wish I'd thought of it before I reassembled the door... (It's already started to rain.) Thanks!
i did that same thing and i have to only press the window once to go all the way up AND another push to go all the way down, much more convenient
Yup, I did the same, the switch wouldn't push down so pulled the switch, discovered the plastic 'tab' and broke it off, done.
i have a gts and mine is broke as well, i took the button off and cut off the little plastic piece that for some reason was put there to keep my button from rocking the other way, works great now, just has a little hole where the odd lock thingy was supposes to be. never liked automatic windows anyway
Rack and pinion alternate? Hi , is there other toyota models whose rack and pinion can be a substitute to our st162s? like corolla? camry?
