so this is my plan i would like to put a 4AG-ZE supercharged with gearbox and rear axle from a AE86 sprinter in to my ST162 to be the first rear wheel drive celica since 1985, just wondering if its possible and would there be any MAJOR difficulties ???

first of all you would have to modify the engine mounts to make the engine north south. second would be the tunnel for the gearbox. then there's making room for the diff and shafts. its possible but ALOT of hard work.

your best bet would be to find a st165. you would only have to modify the engine mounts to make the engine north south. the tunnels already cut out for the gearbox because its 4wd, then you could just modify the drive shaft to suit the gearbox and the rear diff because the diff and rwd hubs are already there.

would be a very nice conversion

i would honestly just get a at160 chassis and drop the 4a-f/4a-g and put in the 4a-gze. it's still gonna be fwd, but it'll be fun enough i bet. for the money you might as well get a rwd corolla with a 4a-ge already in it

Not the 1st, not by a long shot. I've done it with a Fraud Laser and can tell you
it's not as easy as you think. The steering geometry alone is a nightmare to sort.
On the ST162 - have you decided where to put the steering rack?

Pointless I'd say for such a small engine, I'd do it again for a 4 rotor turbo and the sound though

the biggest problem here is the engine. why use a weak 1.6l to move a 3K lb car?

I spoke to Rob the other day, the 1UZ conversion is in limbo till a better steering rack
and strut combo can be found.

My recommendation was to take a rack & struts from an Altezza

The 1UZ is in a GT4 shell with Supra diff, the amount of work that has already been done
is scary and I can verify that even the GT4 tunnel is not big enough to fit a RWD box

The Nissan struts are a failure, there isn't enough room to fit a steering rack

The car now has a roll cage fitted and the engine mounted on rails, I saw the same engine fitted to a TA22
a while back and it was beautifull but I would go rotary, less weight, much more space

Wow. Fun stuff. Last time I asked you about it was like around 6 months ago? haha.
He should post a build thread somewhere. Maybe Lextreme.com the guys there might be able to help out maybe. I'd love to see his progress and what is done.
