hmm..so i found a 89 camry with a manual trans But the guy at the boneyard says that it would only fit a 88-89 celica..and that the engine has to be a 3sfe too..Anyone know for sure ???

If its a 3SFE motor thats in the car, then you can bolt it to an 86-89 Celica with a 3SGTE (FWD swap) or a 3SFE. Same tranny, although I think the gearing in the camry trannys are different.

nope same damn thing. it is best to find one from the 90's though as they have updated syncros.

Hmm..ok and yea the gearing is one of the reasons i want the 3s tranny..Well, one of two anyways ;)

Thanks for the input maf..I'll keep looking and if worst come to worst i'll pick up the 89 cam.

i have a 91 camry manual transmission in my car, no diffrences except placement of starter, you need the camry flywheel and starter aswell. i used the camry engine mouts one needed modifying but i think if you used the celica one it is direct bolt in. camry tranny has a built in oil pump. speedo will be 10 kms out if your running on stock 14's, uhh cant think of anything else btw i have an 89 gt-s

So..im pretty much given up hope on finding a decently priced 3sfe tranny so im just gonna replace and rebuild the parts that i can of my ge tranny and hopefully it will hold u pin the long run.

I want to replace the clutch, throw bearing, slave cylinder and clutch fork..

I see the fork and i know where slave cylinder is but where is the throw out bearing..Is it that thing right in front of the fork ?

The throw out (or release) bearing is on the business end of the fork - it pushes against the clutch when you press the pedal. So you wont see it until you take the tranny off to replace the clutch.

And as far as i know the only place to get cheap trannys is at a pull it yourself yard. A place near here sells 5spds for about $100 -150 I think. You should have something similar down there I would assume.

lol..i wish, We have literally no 3sfe camrys in the bone yards..they either never go bad or the very few that are here have like 250-300 k on them..and im not gonna pay 300-350 for a high milage tranny when my celi only has 116 on her..Thanks for the info though
