Got 89 celica coupe rust repair project gts ofcourse
Catless exhaust , huge no name mufler , lowering springs

Just recently scored a sweat deal on a 3sge 116,000 kms
I didnt expect it to be a 2nd gen the guy just told me he had
A celica convertible rhd so i expected a t16 but it was actually
    A 91 t18 GT-R!!! So 4ws convertible !!!.... Anyway it had 116,000
And he was switching to manual so the conversion was complete
and to top it off a 2nd gen 3sgte so it was nice now its for sale on
    Kijiji . So

Got the motor for $200 no wiring harness + auto trans (toast)
Pulled the timing cover off and brand new timing belt
Pulled trans , thrown torque converter and took off flywheel (and threw it)
Brand new rear main seal ....

No wiring harness so i used my head and decided to use my yamaha 1st gen
Ecu and harness and sensors , but dizzy is staying so im wiring the 5th g clip
On + injector wires i never got so took from 5sfe and they fit

Just got a 5sfe trans out of 92 5spd bumper pushed in (118,500 kms)
Played with it and found it was good besides the left to right metal cube spacer on shifter link ...... Took axles , bearing carrier , rear mount , front one was oval because rad support pushed it so left it , flywheel ,clutch ,pressure plate wer screwed so i threw it and yeAh took it home cleaned her up , painted her black with enamel ...

Next day pulled camry 5sfe trans ,literally pulled and
Took clutch (brand new ) n brand new pressure plate and a
Non resurfaced flywheel (8 bolt), new throwout bearing ... took it home cleaned it up and noticed the bolts dont line up so im in a bit of a pickle....
Painted the block and trans got it all ready and flywheel issue ???
I was mad . Anyways i was thiinking of getting the flywheel drilled somewhere
Its off by a 10th of an inch if not less so ill bring em auto flywheel and camry flywheel to line the holes up and im wondering

Is this a good idea???????? Or should i wait to find a 1st gen 1/2 for its flywheel???? I just want to bolt it up .

i even had a 1st gen 1/2 bad rod bearings with flywheel but heat spots
Should i have taken that flywheel off before i scrapped it or is the flywheel
Screwed when it has hot spots all over it??

Spots should be fine, best to have it skimmed

You need a gen2 flywheel, you can't drill a gen1/FE flywheel to the gen2 pattern.
The gen2 flange is also much bigger
There are heaps on ebay - gen 2/3/4 GE/GTE 1990 on

Should it still be fine to drive around im getting the holes drilled bigger instead of moving holes over , its only temperary

An will camry 5sfe pressure plate work with 3sge flywheel ,isnt the 2nd gen larger??
I would hate to have to buy a new pressure plate

  5. Stig

    No to both
It would be easier to have a new flywheel made

Even if your drilling the holes a fraction larger?
, ill get a new clutch kit with flywheel after the restoration but untill
Then im throwing it on so i can atleast pull it out of the garage
    To bondo and sand

PCD is different, bolts are different

Either find the right flywheel or swap the crank

So I've done my research And the part # of a camry 5sfe flywheel is the same part # of a 3sgte so I don't understand I know bolts are different maby it's the crank?? It was an automatic flywheel before does it make a difference ? I've done research and now I'm lost I'm starting to think a 3sgte flywheel is not the same as 2nd gen 3sge I'm not saying your rong stig but I need an accurate opinion . I got the part #s of rockauto.com

Ive Allso seen camry 1mz and 5vz have a flywheel that looks closer to a 2nd gen 3sge flywheel and v6 camry uses s53 trans so it would work with s53 starter ???? On trans side......????? I need dimensions or something and I could find something

Pictures soon ... And didn't ge flywheel drilled Noonewants to be held liable if engine fucks up

And does the shim from behind the auto flywheel go inplace under manual flywheel?? Or do I use nothing just flywheel to crank didn't notice one on 5sfe crank I may be rong

    Thanks

So more research on 6gc.com there's people doing 5sfte and 5sgtes and 3sgtes and they all run into this problem and there answer is to buy fidanza 3sgte flywheel / clutch / pressure plate kit with 5sfe clutch splines and fidanza purposely elongated the holes to accommodate for the fraction of an inch off on crank so now I seen that I could drill the 5sfe flywheel out professionally or use dremel tool and shave it myself people have done it the only thing that was stopping them is turbos and more hp so instead they save for stage 3 6 puck clutch kit with fidanza LWFW so I got my references so I'm gonna do whatever I can to the 5sfe flywheel to bolt it up A little shaving won't unbalance a 12pm flywheel :hsdance

    So 3sgte 1/2/3 g flywheel will fit on 2/3 g 3sge but NOT 5sfe

    1st g 3sge with 8 bolt I'm not sure about

you need a gen 1 3sgte flywheel and pressure plate. and a 5sfe clutch disk. done.

No Mafix it's a gen2 crank, unless I'm reading this wrong

That's exactly what I'm trying to tell you!

Carefull not to get your gen's mixed up

    Flywheel
    3S-GE gen2/3/4 = 5S-FE gen3/4/5 = RAV4 gen?= 3S-GTE gen2/3/4
GE/GTE gen1 is not compatible with the above, all FE pre 1991 are not compatible either

    Clutch
Use any "S" type plate (you have an S53 box)

    Pressure plate
    Use according to the flywheel

    Thrust bearing
    Only "S" type (ditto)

It's ok I'm getting camry flywheel machined but thnx for info

It's a budget project I've spent around 500 for everything
So I'm not spending $300 on clutch kit + flywheel for a $100
    Car

Eventually when I find another celica I'll put this motor in it And maby get
    Lightweight flywheel ,

Turns out After seeing ecu post my ecu is stock Canada w/egr but motor wasn't

I wonder how much power I'll put down with this ecu on gen 2???

  20. Stig

    Short answer - nothing!
The gen1 is MAF, the gen2 is MAP which means swapping the engine harness and ECU
