It's not standard I guess, looks to me that it has some extra lips & such. Looks very good though, indeed :)

What's wrong with the engine? It's actually very lively and more than adequate

Has any of you actually driven the car? I'm assuming you're only saying that simply because it's Subaru made.

Quite frankly, I'm not a big Subaru fan either but it's a great engine. They've done a wonderful job with it. Besides, it's not meant to produce the most power. Just something with lower center of gravity and better overall physics to take full advantage of the chassis.

In my opinion, if Toyota engineers are ok with a Subaru engine, I'll be hard pressed to disagree with their choices.

This car, regardless of who made it or what the name on its logo says, is an instant classic.

i'm well aware of that. and i'm not argueing that it MIGHT be a great engine. but given the history of boxer engines in general i'm not holding it in high hopes. the ONLY boxer engine i have not seen a retarded amount of problems from is the honda goldwing flat 6.
and to be frank, if it's not a yamaha engine, it's not proper in a toyota in my eyes. kinda of a purist statement but it's an honest one.

    Truth.

    Point taken.

There's also this small company making great boxer motors but I keep forgetting the name. . .

Oh yeah, Porsche. They seem to be doing alright.

Purists aside, (I for one can be), this combination is killer.

Again, please drive one. . .

I was very skeptical and doubtful at first. . .

    Now I really want one!!!

My point isn't whether it's a genuine Toyota or not, it's the fact that it's definitely a great car and an instant classic no matter what brand it is, what color it is, or what engine it has.

It just isn't fair to the car to close off such a great car simply because of the origin of its engine. Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up if I knew this was strictly a Toyota purist forum, I hope I didn't offend anybody if so.

But when all is said and done, this car will be known for a while because it is different, by choice.

I've driven it and I agree the engine was not what I was hoping to find in it... It misses power when going on to the straight. In these times where every normal passenger car is getting a turbo overhere this car needs a turbo and didn't get one.

I know why, because you can drift safely with it with an even power graph but in real life, were most of them will be sold... give the damn car a SC or turbo, it's just underpowered. I love the way it handles though !! Don't get me wrong, with all the computershit even an ass like me can go real fast through the corners ! :)

So yes, even when driven one, you want a different engine :) lol

I honestly believe that yes, it isn't the best engine...

But once again, you can't honestly say the stock 4AGE was the best engine stock either... Highly underpowered... (which this car proceeds)... The AE86s focus was on handling, lightweight, and overall balance which the FR-S has in spades...

That's the whole point of the car, you don't need a lot of power... It's all about handling and balance.. Besides, if they were to put a better engine then others would be complaining about the price (especially if they used forced induction)...

Hardly anybody talks about how powerful the old AE86s engine is and I think it's unfair to discredit this car for that reason... It's still a great car... Specially for the price!!!

the price is over here in holland 41K euro minimum so you can believe me I'm not impressed. It's due to taxes and government things, but still it's sky high. And most AE86 engines were modified as well ;).

But, the car does have superb balance and you can go round corners like a go-kart !!

But word is a SC is on it's way so then everybody has a choice :)

My point exactly, for the price there hardly is a comparable car...

And as you mentioned, most 4AGEs are modified... This isn't

Um......why do I need to drive one if I share Willie's point that the heart of Toyota's racing legacy since the 80's has been Yamaha built motors?

How exactly does my opinion reflect that I am somehow ignorant because I haven't driven one?

A fun test drive isn't going to change my perspective on what I think a Toyota should be.

I never said you were ignorant, nor did I ever go against your opinion

I guess if it's only a matter of name badges on the car, then fortunately it isn't a Toyota... It's a Scion...

I know you didn't, but it's kind of implied when my point is the spirit of an idea and your reply is that some of us need to drive the car. There is an entire group and maybe even a majority of Toyota fans that would prefer to carry the torch for sports engine design and the Toyota sports market. We've been let down on both fronts since the dismantling of the sports program in the 90's. We expected more. I could go on about the reasons, but in short I feel like it was a slap in the face for those of us that waited and waited for the return of a sports car. Then they do it with a Suburu engine and a Scion badge? I'm sorry, but no. Call me a sucker for marketing and brand loyalty, whatever. I feel like the guys on the top floor understood the polling for and the lack of a sports car in their giant line up of Toyotas, Lexus', and Scions. What they didn't understand was who they were polling and who was making the request for the car in the first place. If that's not apparent to everyone here then take a look at the IS line. They createde a sports car out of that line and then an entire sports division. But who drives the Lexus IS250/350 in the US? People like my dad, 58. The same old farts that buy Porsche Boxsters and parade around town showing off the car, but not what it can do. These people have no idea how to drive that car. So much so that in the US Lexus only made a few hundred manuals available. But Toyota decides to bless the Lexus market with a sports department to design and sell aftermarket support to the IS community? WTF? Between the hundreds of thousands of Celicas, MR2s, and Supras produced from 1970 to 2005 in the US you'd think they'd have some idea of who the loyalists were.

I'm sure the FR-S is balanced and great in corners and all that jazz, but to me this car is just a red-headed step child. All I'm saying about that....

And as far as badging goes we all know who design that car. So it's a Toyota. I'd go so far as to say Scion doesn't have a design team. In terms of a sub-entity of Toyota I'll bet they only have a marketing team. It's the same way Lexus started out.

I never once disagreed to your point, matter of fact, I solidified it. . .

How many more times will I have to agree to that?

My point here is that, disregarding who made what part, or designed this, or funded that, or engineered what. . . That this is an awesome car to DRIVE. . .

Exactly why I asked for people to DRIVE it. . . Not to be a smart ass. . . It really is fun to DRIVE.

And by me saying please drive one is strictly that, it's a hoot to drive
