I am needin a new motor and i found one, but it is a 2nd gen.
So my question is will the 2gen bolt right up. and the 1 gen harness will work with no problem?. is there any mods that need to be done?

I don't think the wiring or the ecu is the same

And I've heard from numerous people that wiring different generational motor's is a nightmare...it can be done...but it's hell... 88v6celi' went through it recently....but his was a 1mzfe, not a 3sge....still different wiring however...

The 2nd gen head cannot accept your EGR equipment. You can mate the bottom end of the 2nd gen w/ the top of the 1st gen and get some performance gains (according to Toysport) but I don't know what other changes are required. Regardless, your ECU can't communicate w/ the 2nd gen air/fuel supply system and emissions (unless your strictly off roads use and don't need any emissions stuff, in which case go for it). If you need to keep everything smog-legal (etc) then you must use a 1st gen 86-87 engine. They are different from the 1st gen 88-89 engine (well, the head, injectors, and egr setup are different - hence a different ECU).

but if he doesnt have emmissions then he's good to go. ugh emissions testing is so lame, glad I dont have it here.
