If I have a 1987 2 litre DOHC Toyota celica with a 1990 transmission, do I need a different starter.

That all depends. the 3sge and 3sfe (GTS and GT) celicas have different starter locations. However I think that the starters themselves are interchangeable. Dont quote me on it though, I'm sure someone else will chime in here

just check a prats distributor, check the part number for a 3sge engine and then for a 3sfe. if the part numbers are the same for the starters for either engine then they are the same.... 3sge is for the gts model and the fe was in the gt.

as long as the transmission code is the same, no.
