Well that sucks ! I am assuming that you did remember to put the radio fuse back in in the engine bay ? When you take a look at my wiring there is a green wire but it dissapears inside some black tape. it is from the taillight fuse and goes to the clock but it does not show it connecting to the blue and yellow wire which I included So I'll have to go out and find a spare harness or tear appart one of my celicas to find out what the .... is up with that green wire
yeah it would not turn on with fuse in or out with green wire disconnected. but like you said try attaching it to grey ignition powered wire so i need to try that. I Did not read that post of yours at the time so did not try it i will tho and report back.
Well I would not now connect the green wire to the gray wire. If you want to make things work I would reconnect the green wire to the blue and yellow wire but attach it with a switch so you can shut it off. that way you don't have to keep removing the fuse from the engine bay. For some reason your blue and yellow wire is not providing 12 volts to your stereo. If you have a voltage meter you should check and see if your blue and yellow wire is 12 volts. If you don't have a meter use a 12 volt bulb. Also test your green wire it should also provide 12 volts.
So I found an unmolested harness and its kind off a good news bad news scenario Bad news is the plug has a green wire Good news is the green wire is not used, their is actually 3 wires that are not used I can explain why it has a green wire by looking at the wiring for the clock L-Y blue wire with a yellow stripe maintains the clocks memory W-B white wire with a black stripe is clocks ground L-R blue wire with a red stripe turns clock on when key is turned G green wire dims clock when lights are turned on So the reason the radio has a green wire is to dim the radios display at night Here you can see the green wire from the taillight circuit but it should only be 12 volts if the taillights are turned on so in this case 12 volt power should only be leaving the circuit to go to the clock if the relay is closed instead 12 volts was going into the circuit via the blue wire with yellow stripe constantly because it was connected to the green wire The reason your taillights were allways on before was because the blue and yellow wire was providing 12 volts to the taillight circuit causing you to remove the radio fuse to turn your taillights off. I do understand what is wrong I don't know if I have explained to well So test the -blue wire with yellow stripe -test the green wire -check the radio fuse in the engine bay to make sure its not blown !!!!!! if you don't have 12 volts on the blue wire with yellow stripe the fuse must be blown
Bingo! Just recently I have found two radio harness adapters in the junkyards. These allow installation of a new stereo without cutting the factory plugs. They are cheap cheap cheap on eBay too.
I'm prob too late but I just kind of skimmed through the thread to say that your dimmer circuit was prob wired in to your radio harness to be hot. I wouldn't go back to those guys if I were you. Any more wiring issues come see us first
