As above, I can get hold off a set of toyota ones, for a 185 though, no joy getting 165 ones. Does anyone know if they are the same? need to change mine as they are worn out.
My understanding is that they are not interchangeable. However, it looks like we have found some sources for ST165 parking brake shoes. It appears the 162 GTS ones will interchange nicely. On http://www.alltrac.net, there is a big discussion on this with pics. Here are the links: http://alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php ... c&start=30 http://alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=329275#329275 Hope that helps. Rick
i ran into the same problem.. here's my solution. find aluminum calipers with the e-brake on the caliper.
great info Rick cheers. GT2, I would maybe look at changing the calipers, but as I have the ST185 full set up, with new discs and pads from EBC coming, I am loath to get rid, just coz of these shoes. Fingers crossed I can get them in the UK, If not I will get them from the states.
the mr2 has an ebrake caliper. maybe the pads can be made to fit. and i hear you ebc is not something to throw away. i have been looking into wilwood 4 piston full aluminum calipers and if i can get yellow stuff for them.
just found a quick solution, awaiting the cost, but I can get the old shoes re lined, Classic car guys do it all the time. http://www.powerstop.co.uk/PDFs/BrakeSh ... ervice.pdf hopefully they will do a good price. That willwood caliper is sweet, but lack of dust shields put me off. Yeah going with EBC yellow stuff all round with matched grooved and dimpled discs. ( supposed to be a suprise lol, not going to add them until I can re do my lines, ditch the abs and fit the bias adjuster) then I will have the best set up I can get, bar big calipers.
^Good score. I didn't realize that you had the full 185 brake set up on your 165; you should be able to go with the 185 e-brakes, yes?
As the hub is still 165, and the rear disc internal dimension is exactly the same be 185 rear or 165 rear disc, I think the 165 set will be the best. The only difference with the rear set up bar the actual hub is for the 185 you have a bigger carrier for the caliper to allow for the slightly bigger 185 disc, everything else looks identical. However, never having had the hubs back to back, I dont want to risk using a 185 set of rear shoes. Toyota parts = nightmare sometimes re the parts interchangabilty. However some interesting info for you. CELICA 2.0 (ST161, ST162) GT, GTS 01/85-08/87 COROLLA AE80, EE80 1.3 06/83-05/87 COROLLA AE82 1.6GTi 05/83-09/87 MOTAQUIP PART NUMBER VBS502 That is copied straight from a parts book, so you can see the other cars that use the set up. From what we could see, the later 4th gens use the same part, but its not recorded in the book??
I used ST205 rear shoes on mine - they were identical, so I'm guessing all Celica gen4-gen6 shoes are the same. Slight difference in the retaining pin assembly.
