so you are getting water in your trunk and in your rear speaker boxes and can't figure out where it is coming from. here is a list of fixes. *the rear quarter windows leak, speaker boxes are full of water. remove your rear interior and seal the rear windows all the way around with silicon. *the jack and tool are always soaking wet. first remove the 3 rear panels of the interior as well as the jack and tool kit. now run your hand down into the bottom of the car below where the jack would go. you'll typically find a lot of rust or even find that there is a hole there. to fix this you'll need to remove the rear bumper and the rear of the exhaust. get down there with a disk cutter and cut out all the rusted areas. then either weld in new metal (prefered) or glue and rivet a plate in (temp fix). on the underbody of the repair spray with paint and then with undercoat. on the inside hose the bottom of the well down with paint. *water is in the spare tire well. generally you'll neeed a few things. glue the tops of the taillights and the liscence plate holder. then there is one seam about 4 inches above the tail lights, glue that shut (they start to pull apart after a while. then make sure you have a good hatch seal and that it is glued down. *i've done everything above and still get water in the back. remove the hatch shocks and put some rtv on the bottoms of the mounts and reinstall. remove the hatch interior covers and make sure you aren't getting water in there. if you are then you'll need to reseal the rear window. the window trim is an absolute nightmare to remove without breaking it so i recommend having a glass shop do that.
The passenger floor board gets wet when i run the a/c or defrost. *there is a tube that goes fromt he evaporater to the outside of the car. typically that gets clogged up with small stuff and just needs to be cleaned out.
the floor boards get wet after it rains. *welcome to the common problems of owning a 20+ year old car. remove all seats and the center console. then carefully remove the carpet. you should find rust through holes near the (left to right)center of the floor. look under the car and you will see the floor board runner. the holes should be right above that or just to the side. you'll have to remove that entire runner and any damaged metal. then weld (only weld)in new repair patches. you'll then need to go to a metal shop and get some tube steel to recreate the runner. again paint and undercoat everything.
its probaly the weatherstripping thats going bad...i tubed some silicon inside there and sealed it right up
And don't forget the drain pipes from the sunroof, they can age and start leaking, or get pulled out if someone worked on the interior. They're clear plastic tubes, about 1" in diameter and run down the C pillar. Not sure if there's a pair in the A pillar as well... Tom
My sunroof seals up fine, but I may be getting it yanked out soon since it's rusty and I wanna get all the bodywork done so my car will be as sexy as it was in 87 this summer (power windows and sunroof, new red paint, girls in bikinis, woot!)
