3 wire 3 position set up. the middle, then you can switch it up, or you can push and hold it down

The hole is extremely clean cut, almost like its supposed to be there

The trim around the switch is an exact match to the texture and color of the dash

I looked at interior pics of some peoples cars on the forums and it seems like that is a common place for a fog light switch, but i have no fog lights and it would appear that there never were any fog lights mounted on the front.

I just checked to see if there is voltage to any of the wires. I found 12 volts running through the white middle wire. If i move the switch i dont notice anything happen at all. The voltage gauge in the dash doesnt even budge like it does when i roll up my windows or turn on the lights etc. Please help me figure out the mystery switch!

It's not stock, the plate is.
3 wires would indicate it could go to some sort of relay, the 3 positions would indicate it may have been an aerial up/down switch - follow the wires and see what it does

JDM's don't have aerials but some did have a 3 way switch for an extending parking aerial in the front bumper.
The swich is a proper oem one marked "pole"

hmmm, i would think either aftermarket fogs or aftermarket alarm.

-id be clever if it were an antenna switch. my truck has an oem one. that way you can lower/raise the antenna with the radio on. for carwashes, parking garages, ect.

My car is RHD and I have only the dimmer dial on the right side but on the other side I have a coin holder and a blank plate where the previous owner put in a 2 way thumb switch which turns green when on.

I also have no idea what it's purpose is and I'v had my car for 4 years :lachtot

so i just tore the drivers side dash apart trying to follow these wires only to find out that it goes to an old alarm system, the majority of the wires have been cut to the alarm but it still has the wires going to the ignition as well as several others. If i wanted to remove this system how would i go about doing it without disabling my ignition?

My parts car came with a red light there. Since the car doesn't run there is no way of knowing how many horsepowers that the red light adds, but I feel the logical assumption is very many indeed [IMG]

Either that or it's a "Super-Awesome!" light, and comes on automatically when you're driving super awesome [IMG]

Its a fairly simple process taking the alarm out. FIRST THINGS FIRST! Disconnect the battery. When dealing with any alarm, always a good idea to disconnect the battery. Otherwise if you accidentally touch something and the alarm goes off, its generally quite loud.

You will need to take all the kick panels, and black plastics off around the steering wheel if you haven't already. Once doing this, you should see an exposed key barrel. From memory I think there's about 5-6 wires coming from the back of this. If its covered in either electrical tape, or sometimes if its hasn't been touched or done by someone who knows what there doing the OEM black rubber cover will be over it.

With those 3 wires if you can get out a bit of masking tape and a marker and write on it alarm switch or something along those lines so that when you finally get the alarm out you know exactly where it was, so at a later stage if you have to work it out again you know what the go is if its going to be thrown out then probably wouldn't worry about it.

After this, you will have to expose the wires from under the steering wheel as well, just in case they have used the wire trail there as well. If not, even easier. What you want to do now, is move those 3 wires out and try to separate them through the other wires. Follow along the wire until you get to a spliced in joint. If you have to take any electrical tape off and fix it up after you done.

Once you find the spliced in section you should be right to cut off the spliced in section. Don't cut any of the ignistion leads, only the wire that went to the switch. They should be 2 different colors and thickness's. Hopefully if you lucky the installer has used a soldering iron, but if not it will be twisted in and wrapped up with a fair amount of electrical tape, or they have used. connectors of some sort..

Pretty much if you do that for the whole process you should be able to follow each wire going FROM the alarm and snip off the wires not needed and take the alarm out. There may be a few, maybe 1 wire going to the engine bay as well, this could be just for a pressure switch to register open/ closed bonnet.

If you want to send some pictures of what your dealing with I can a bit more accurately help you out. Just be careful what you cut, and make sure you double check the wires and do it one at a time.

I was unlucky and had half of the wires under my dash twisted and taped up.. Not good when you have some of your mains going through their with that method.. Quickest way of burning a car down.. GRR I think I have spent about 3-5 days tidying it up and its not even completed yet.. haha

Anyway hope that helps out a bit.
