Right from the return hose/thermostat area.... Took it to my buddy and he said it looks like the water pump is leaking...it leaks BAD my car was in the redline today when I looked at it so I stopped and put water in just to make it home...facckk... :( How hard is the friggin water pump to get at? I have a/c too so I bet it's probably a huge pain in the ass... thought's / opinion's welcome....

I've changed my water pump while the engines in the car. It's not too bad.. Takes maybe two hours to do.

This is what I did when I removed it…

-First I removed the over flow reservoir
-Removed the alternator and all brackets around it
-Remove alternator belt and power steering belt.
-Took out the speed control module because it was in the way
-Hook up engine hoist and take off weight from engine mount.
-Remove bolt that holds engine mount to car
-Go under car remove two 14mm bolts that hold engine mount to engine. (use deep socket) I had to remove the mounting bolts for the power-steering fluid because the engine mount couldn’t squeeze by the lines when I removed it from the engine bay.
-After that you need to remove the crankshaft pulley, which is a 19mm socket. My impact gun couldn't remove it, so I had to take the headers off and the starter and get someone to jam something in the flywheel to stop it from moving.. at that point I used a breaker bar and a big poll to loosen the bolt. It’s pretty tough to get off…
-Once you've removed the pulley remove all the bolts that hold the timing cover on. Then it's pretty straightforward from there. I removed and changed my timing belt when I did it. If you haven’t done it before, it’s probably a good idea to do it. The belt cost me 55 dollars.

    Hopefully this will help you.
    Good luck.

mechanic job if you are not familiar with timing the motor. PITA if you don't know how is an understatement.

Well at least I can do it while at the mechanics so he can help me with shit like that....taking stuff apart and putting it back together the same way I can handle....

So yeah there was some coolant under the timing cover....that leads me to believe it is the water pump

I'm at a standstill right now at that fucking crankshaft...I really don't want to take my exhaust header off and starter and jam the flywheel because my header bolts are fuckin rusted to shit so I don't know how well they'll even come off if at all....

Any other hints to this damn crankshaft pulley?

And, if I do get it loosened....do I need a special puller to get it out?

Advice needed asap because my car's sittin on jackstands at my buddies garage right now and I need to get it fixed.... thanks!

so far as I know the timing cover isn't supposed to have any oil/dirt/coolant etc under it. my crankshaft pulley came unbolted really easily with an quick hit from the impact. you'll need a pulley puller to get it off once it's unbolted. the water pump is under the alt and such, right by the t-stat is it not?

Yeah I guess so haha.... I'll have to rent a puller from Canadian Tire I guess....fuckin crankshaft bolt will NOT come off with 2 different impact guns...one was a frickin snap-on....damn...

just out of shear curiosity... do we "need" a timing belt cover... my car didnt come with one...

Yes. It keeps dirt and debris from hitting the timing belt, so it will last longer and not break.

so I confirmed it was the water pump leaking today...it's fucking corroded at the front clearly it was leaking before it was ripped from the old car so buddy who sold it to me fucked me over....not really a big surprise.... I should have rebuilt or at least changed the seals on the engine before I put it in anways so it's my own stupid fault...now I'm left with a leaking waterpump yay...

I ended up putting the car back together because I couldn't take off the crankshaft pulley...I plan on saving up a bit of cash or askin' the rent's for a loan so I can take this bitch to the garage and get er' done..... :(

    son of a bitch :(

On the plus side I picked up a water pump for $88 (cad).....
