I was wondering of a good way to determine which DM the car/engine is from (for 4th generation Celicas). I have read that there is no EGR valve on the JDM models, along with a more agressive ECU. Is there a textual marking difference, or mechanical difference that is easy to determine from? Thanks!
headers have yamaha written on them, and correct if im wrong, but the valve covers are gold, opposed to a sivler/gold colour of usdm
actually they look almost identical, all jdm will have the 02 sensor on the front of the exhasut mani. if you look to the right of the vcs on the front by the engine lift hook there would be no pipe coming out, no egr obviously which could also be told by looking at the top of the tb where there are 1 vacuum inlet on the top while there are three on the usdm. there would also be no pipe coming from the exhaust mani to the egr thats basically it for my morning thoughts, my engine has had the egr removed so it looks close but the tb sets it off any more questions?
there are a few way to tell them apart, most notable would be the lack of an egr (metioned above) if your angine is a gte or a ge regardless they will all have "yamaha" written on the cylinder head. simply because thats who makes them. in hp numbers a 165 3sgte usdm has about 195hp while the jdm version is slightly higher, around 199-200hp the ecu's are slightly different in tuning. also if you really want to look, on the block by the frost plugs, there will be a stamp, if its a number and a symbol (either or) its a usdm, if its a japenese symbol its a jdm. hope this helps
