hey i got a 4g gt-s tranny sitting at my house and my buddy needs one for his 1990 gt-s bla bla any mods needed?
Engine mounts will probably be different, put the ones from the old box on the new one. The 5th gen may have an electronic speedo sender, 4th gen is mechanical. That swaps straight over. Few other things that may be different, but it all just transfers across I've actually got a 1997 model Camry box in my 86 SX (GTS..)
Yep. Get them side-by-side and it becomes pretty clear. Just undo the bolts, swap what you need and tighten the bolts again. The hard part is getting the gearbox in and out of the car...
Ohhh can't remember about the clutch fork, sorry. You should be able to use your buddies original starter. 90% sure the ratios are different, 4th gen is 4.176 and 5th gen is 3.944 or 3.7xx I think?
i have a related question. i'm wondering about swapping the transmission from my 87 gt onto an 89 gt-s. i'll try searching more, but my initial search didn't bring a whole lot. i might buy an automatic 89. obviously i can't live with an automatic, so since i've got the 87, i'm hoping i could just swap it onto the 3sge? i know they aren't the same tranny (well, i mean even the manuals), but just wondering what issues there would be swapping...(aside from the aspects of going to manual instead of auto) thanks
