Hey guys I'm adding to my ever growing parts list and I cant seem to find a coilover option. I remember there being one on the aus ebay but I can't manage to find it now. Any help would be awesome.

Check out the Megan Coilovers for the ST185. They should mostly be a drop in upgrade with minor modifications.

I'm running ST184 coilovers on my ST162 right now.

What mods did you need to do? AFAIK the 18x bolts are a lot bigger

I've bought ST202 TEIN adjustable coilovers for the TEMS, anybody know what needs to be done to fit them?

tim and i are both using megan st182 (gts for us) coilovers. you need to mod the lower hole on the rear struts. that's it

Wasn't you who told me not to buy the same ST202 TEIN set some time ago, because the ST202 struts are much shorter and it will ride like crap? :)

Yes, the stock ST202 shocks are way shorter (mainly because the top hats are recessed)
I'm hoping the TEINS will adjust upward enough to work with the ST162, I see the previous owner had them way down low on his ST202.

I bought them mainly as a shortcut to strip them and fit my TEMS inserts inside, it works out cheaper to buy some used coilovers than to convert the TEMS struts and start from scratch.

With the TEINS there's an upgrade path also, the EDFC system is the next logical step if I fail to get the TEMS inserts restored

Yes it would be nice to be able to adjust the suspension and also someday use much bigger rims.
With coilovers I think it's possible to run 18in rims

Oompa has ST185 TEINS fitted on his ST165 and it stands pretty high, he had to drill out his front hubs to take the bigger bolts but that is all.
I don't know if the ST202 shocks are much shorter than the ST185, I suspect also that the car using the ST202 suspension had cut springs, but there's no proof so it will be interesting to compare
Car was stupid low and handling suxx

Here you can see how far the ST202 struts stick out from the towers

Yup, that was it! (The posts where we discussed before are lost in the site crash)

18" rims? Are you sure? The 16" T23 rims are already very heavy, my car handles and feels much lighter with my ugly 15" winter rims. Sure, the summer set looks much better, but I always get seriously thinking on getting some lighter rims every time I change from summer to winter or vice versa :) But a decent, light 16" set is not cheap...

My ideal is 17-18in wheels (the GT4 pictured has 17in with stock struts, Tui also runs 17in with 205 brakes and stock struts)

Firstly the price of new 16in tyres here is beserk - $200+ea
Second I can get plenty used race tyres in 17in - free
Third my next brake upgrade will be 330mm disks or bigger, if you are spending money it pays to go max?

the 16x suspension has nearly no movement already. i can't imagine installing something with less. although the megan set i have actually have quite a bit more movement than stock, they ride much better (for me since mine is quite nose heavy and a feather in the back), and they have a much longer stroke than any celica stock strut.
when the math is all done, the actual stock spring rates and the suspension travel are laughable. currently, i've doubled the suspension stroke and quadroupled the spring rates. and i'm considering a lot more.

Willie, what settings do you have your Megan's on?

I'm still trying to dial mine in. Right now I feel like I'm riding in a damn brick. It's crazy hard right now.

front are like 14 rear are like 16...i think.
    might be even harder.

did you adjust the spring perches at all? you should have raised the front perches 2 turns.

  18. 4thgenceli

    4thgenceli Test Dummy

No I still need to raise the perches to get the car to sit a bit higher so I don't bottom out everywhere.

  19. Mafix

yeah raise both front spring perches but only 2 turns.
then just raise the shock bodies. you'll want to be 1 rotation higher on the drivers side in the rear than the passenger rear.
then you want to be 3 rotations higher on the passenger front than the drivers front.

this will help corner balance your car.

So I’m a bit confused now.

First I want to raise the car to a level where I’m not constantly bottoming out. To do this, I need to raise the spring perches (effectively lowering the shock tube assembly) to a level that I’m happy with. Once that’s done, you’re saying adjust the perches again according to what you said to help in cornering?
