my sunroofs seized on my 89 162 so thought id remove it , grease everything up and reassemble as the motor seemed to be making the right noises,, I consulted my bgb to replace (Haynes manual doesn't seem to cover the sunroof) and it looked like a straight forward job. so I removed the interior light, eventually managed to get the screw out, and then pulled the metal shim out (the bgb said there should have a been a spring around the screw inside the shim, mine did not have this, originally the sunroof was making a motor noise then stopping , with this screw out the motor makes a continuous noise, my first question is what is the purpose of the spring ? after removing these pieces I then tried to manually turn the main bit inside where the shim was with a big flat headed screw driver, pretty much to no avail, I managed to get the left side of the sunroof to go down slightly but the rights not budging, ive sprayed all manors of things in the seals and through the headlining but doesn't seem to be working, its as if ive detached the motor some how, the other screw which seems to cover the tilt is also mega seized, it looks like the sunroofs been out n painted before as the paint jobs no where near as shiny as the car so I guess my question is , how do I get it out without causing un needed damage , and to top it all of ive now goosed the screw that went in the shim cause ive rounded off the bit in the motor you turn and mangled the threads for the screw to go back in, worse case ill break out the old tap n die set later but for once we are actually getting reasonable weather here in the uk and would be nice to have it open. (ps sorry for the block of text my enter button wont work on the site :S )

just to add the slide button is the one making the noise but not doing anything, the tilt button doesn't make any noise at all when pressed. sunroof was last attempted to be opened in October last year but it literally dipped down a bit and got stuck so I manually closed it with the screwdriver and haven't touched it since.
