My car: 1988 GTS with manual windows and manual locks
Donor: 1987 GT with power windows and power locks

My car was recently backed into by my mother causing the passenger door's glass to break and the door to bend. I went to a junkyard and got a new door with glass that has power windows, as it can get annoying having to reach over to the other side to adjust the window, especially while driving. I've tested the motor and the switch and all is fine. My electrical harness even has the wires necessary for power windows and locks! However, once hooked up the controls are non-responsive.
For the passenger power window, my guess is it's not getting the right signals because there is no power window on the driver side that has the window-lock. The BGB does not specify how the power window lock button works, or what colors it's associated with. My thoughts are to find what wires it gives continuity and bridge them on the driver's side of the harness.
The power door lock does not work as either, but that is a far less important task for now.

I'll look into it more tomorrow to see if I can figure anything out. If someone could give some advice on this, that would be great. I'm going to re-read this topic viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2272 tomorrow and see where that gets me.

okay you have to have both sides plugged in for it to work

ive done this and yes the passenger side wont work without the drivers and vis versa....go back and grab the other side. only way your gonna get it to work

and once you do this the power locks will work as well but did you grab the locking solenoid as well?

basically you have to gut the entire door and swap everything for it all to work correctly......i did this with my car and also helped out a member here as well.

I grabbed the whole door for the passenger side. Thanks for confirming that it's normal for the passenger side to not work without the driver's side. I'm thinking I'll be able give a few pins continuity by jumping them and that will simulate a power door on the driver's side.

Alright, I figured it out and it works now. I'll write how I did it in case anyone finds the information helpful. My BGB had some of the electrical diagrams in the back ripped out so I had to find one. A quick Google search lead me to this pdf file. http://www.mediafire.com/?nq4zmnyzlmo I studied the power window diagram and outlined the path of interest.

My original thought was to join pin 3, 4, 5, and 6 together. I joined 4 wires together with solder and bent the ends so they would fit snuggly into the plug. I took the paneling off on the driver's side to get to the plug to door. (BTW, the clutch/brake pedal makes for a great flash-light holder when looking at those fuses/that area!) The plug does not have a red (pin 6) wire on it, which makes sense as that is contained within the door (from the motor to the driver's switches) I just did not realize that until I got in the car. The driver's door will have wires missing on that side of the harness and the body will have have those wires. Toyota must have done this to make assembly easier and to reduce costs, or maybe they were thinking of people like us who like to add features later on. :D Anyways, find the wires (Wht-Blk, grn-wht, red-blu) and join them together on the empty contacts (plug from driver's door). Test to see if it works (don't forget to put the key in and turn it on), and pack it all in and put the paneling back on.

This is no way a permanent fix, just something that will work until I figure something better out. Hopefully bumpy roads don't cause the bridging wires to fall out.
