    Hello 4g experts.

I am fishing for info here as to how to go about effecting the steering response in my car. The GT4 to say the least has the most dull and unresponsive steering. I keep the power steering only because I do auto X regularly. I am looking for something to either quicken the steering ratio to move about the 235 stickies a bit faster. Can we fit a different rack, modify the original one?

I have depowered racks on the 5th gen and it greatly improves the steering feedback, so I am leaning toward this for my 4th gen. But the idea situation would be to quicken the ratio. Already got a small wheel, if there is no rack solution, i might be installing a racing steering quicken er device

if you get a larger power steering pully it will slow down the pump and put less stress on the engine and give you some extra feedback.

I havent been able to find any manual rack for our cars. I thought about buying an sw20 manual rack just to see if it fits. everything else has p.s. camrys, rolla's, ect. I want to depower my rack but to "do it right" it needs to be disassembled. its on my long list, but the more fluid i get on my garage floor the closer it gets. a p.s. rack has a "quicker" ratio than a manual rack anyways, so i think this is the best route.

-I'd actually prefer not to have p.s. on the track. my friends (not car people at all) think im nuts, but hey the first 3-4 cars i owned didnt have p.s...you just get bigger arm muscles to cope.

heres a couple links ive saved for when i do mine. Both miatas but 2 different p.s. rack types. Ive found mazdas are very similar to yotas so im guessing one of these is probably very close to the celi rack, but i havent opened mine up yet...this should get ya close.

why do yours...just hit the yard and pull one and see if it works...if it does, sweet then all you have to do is exchange them when you do pull yours.....then you could depower the next one for someone else and sell it.

ill take 25% for the advice when you sell.....lol

the 165 steering rack is unique to that chassis. i have retro fitted the 162 gts rack into a 165 with no big issues but they have the same feel and ratio. as far as i know there are no know true manual racks that can be swapped in.
now knowing that...you can fit a flaming river rack easy enough. but you will need access to the entirety of the inside of the firewall to reinforce the area that you mount the rack to.

Nonetheless with the seemingly hard to find manual steering racks, I'd love to have one.
If it fits I'll take it, even if it has a weird name lol.
