I was looking at the KYB catalog and they list AGX shocks for the front of 88-89 Celicas, but not 86-87. Any one know what the difference is, and if they would fit an 86?

I've decide not to lower my car and want to dial out some of the stock spring bounce, so it's either these or Konis (ouch!!$$).

tom honestly i would look at the kyb gr2. they ride smooth as glass. now if you want adjustable ones you'll need to buy front ones for the 88 and rear ones for a 90mr2 (i think) and junk yard rear suspension of an mr2.

Like Mafix said. I would go with the GR2 with the Intrax lowering spring. I am in the middle of redoing the complete suspension on my ST165 Alltrac and I am using the Intrax spring with the AGX struts on all four.

Not sure how many know this but the front strut housing you can unscrew and pull the strut out and replace the entire strut keeping the housing. AGX make one for the front on the ST165 and I think they are the same on all 86-89 4gen Celicas.

Now the rear are sealed strut and you have to replace the whole thing unless you do what I did and followed these directions:

I am going to have everything powder coated and I will have all new wheel bearings, poly bushings, adjustable endlinks, new rotors and pads, powder coated brake calipers, Intrax springs, and KYB AGX on all 4 struts.

I've got a new set of GR2s and some Eibach springs, but I've decided I really don't want to lower the car. The reasons are many but I want to keep the stock ride height, but not have the car too softly damped. That's why I was thinking about the AGX since I can stiffen them up to counteract the softer stock springs. I'm not worried about the rear as much since there isn't much weight back there, it's the front I'm more concerned with.

What I'm looking for is a good handling street car. I won't be autocrossing it and after 30 years of driving various race cars on the street, I'm tired of stiff rides, especially on the crappy, sucky, shitty, lousy roads we have here in the NW. Did I mention the roads aren't so good around here?

So, stock springs, AGX front, GR2 rear, seems like a workable solution. Yes, yes??
