    So are those the megans?

Yes, that is a 90-93 celica gt/gts Megan Racing coilover on the front of my 89 GTS. I will be installing the others tonight.

    Nice :)
What did you have to modify to make them fit?

    I will explain later.

I did not have to do anything to the fronts to make them fit.

Jacked up the car, removed front wheel, removed brake line from strut, tied out of the way.

Once the strut was clear, I removed the two hub bolts/nuts (19mm) and then the three 14mm nuts on the strut tower in the engine bay. Installation was the reverse of removal.

The rear though is giving me an issue. The stock '89 GTS rear hub strut --> hub holes are about 3" apart center -> center. The st182 coilovers I have are just about a half inch wider apart (3.5" or so). So while I can fit the top bolt & nut, the bottom I can only see about 1/2 of the hole. I am enlarging the hole on the coilovers just a bit to fit the bolts. Other than that everything else is fitting exactly (strut towers, end links, sway bar, etc).

make sure you enlarge the right hole. e.g. if you put the bolt in at the bottom and enlarge the top hole. if done incorrectly you'd be changing ride hieght.

-pretty sure youd have thought of that though  and they look great.

doesnt matter , he has coilovers

-still will. your overall height would be different. if you use the coil over to make up the difference youll change the amount of stroke you have in the strut. e.g. if the cartidge is +1in and you drop the car -2in that things gonna bottom out in a big way since you've effectivly lost 3in of stroke.

-im sure its not that drastic but something to think about.

-if it were me id try to align the bottom hole an notch the top. that way you could get a little drop just from the mounting with no loss in stroke, then drop it the rest of the way with the c.o.. unless your already gettin a "lift" from using the top hole, in which case the bottom hole would put you at stock.

I'm not sure how the megans work, but the eBay coilover has independent ride height and spring pre-load adjustment.

    what he said

most of the descent coilovers height adjustment is independant of spring load and doesnt affect shock stroke. essentially it just lifts the hub

    The above is the trooof.

The coilovers lift up the hub assembly (lowering the car).

Sadly I don't think I'll have time to work on it for two weeks now as I'm in Vegas on business then next week I'm in Reno/Minden/Mountain View, CA.

-you can see how many sets of coil overs ive dealt with....but iim still not seeing it. (looking at pics now). anyway you adjust it you loose stroke. even if you say stiffened the spring and ran the hub out and back to stock height youd still be compressing the strut. if you could lower the upper mount down the strut shaft then youd maintain stroke, lower the car, and add preload.

-if you have adjustment to run the hub up it would have to have a gap in the bottom, meaning a shorter strut has already been used?

    -am i nuts?

-sorry not trying to be the nay sayer, just curious. there still super cool.

I didn't see one live, but as I imagine:
You can adjust beneath the spring (pinkish/red part) -> modify stroke / preload
And you can adjust the bottom part (silver, that bolts on to the hub) by simply rotating it around -> change ride height.

correct (i think). but the strut should sit in the bottom of the lower part. just like an oem replacement cartridge. youd only be able to raise the car. unless they used a shorter strut to start with so you have a gap in the bottom.

-a shorter strut would be better, as the valving would still be centered in its throw.

    you can stiffen the strut.

    SICK!!!!
I'm so stoked to see those rears fitted in! If you could make a tutorial or something (for the rears) once you get them in, that would be totally awesome since I'm thinking about having the same setup. :)

Thanks for the pics so far!
