I've been lurking here for quite a while, since buying 1987 GT last year. This forum has helped me solve some common issues and get a better idea of what's happening with my car. I've spent a bunch of time searching for a solution to this particular problem but couldn't find any threads addressing it: The HVAC control lights on my car light up part of the time, but almost entirely turn off whenever I switch a setting. For example, if I change the fan setting or vent setting the lights go out for all the controls. Then they will either come on again on their own or come on again when I switch settings again. I can use the hot/cold slider with no issues. This car doesn't have AC. The controls themselves all work and do what they are supposed to do. (When the lights work a couple on the left side are always off, but I assume this is just a burned out bulb or two.) In addition, my car is an automatic and there is no lifting for the gear selector, should their be? Thanks! Rick
IRCC, there should be lighting for the gear selector. Likely just a bulb burnt out. For the HVAC, there are small bulbs that can work loose causing intermittent lighting. The other may be cracked solder joints from the bulb contacts and pathways. You'd have to remove, disassemble and re-solder the back of the HVAC panels. Tedious, but not that difficult. A lotta guys have done it to fix the HVAC intermittent heat issue. PS - there is an 'edit' function if you need to amend posts.
Also, check out this thread for what the HVAC panel looks like disassembled. You can see the where the bulbs go and what you may need to fix. http://www.st162.net/index.php?threads/heater-control-panel-another-fix.2918/
Do you know what bulb might work for the shifter light? Didn't see it described in the bulb post elsewhere on this forum.
