Acetone doesn't eat away any part safe for gasoline. While being readily available, and cheap enough to pay for itself. This lexus gained roughly 2 mpg from it. The F150 went from 17mph (avg) 19mpg (best ever seen) to 20mpg (avg) 22.5 (best ever seen). Mom's maxima went from getting 27 (avg) and 30 (when i drive it on long highway trips) to 31 (avg) and 35 (long trips) If you only get 10% on 19mpg, that's an extra 35 mile range (5 miles more than the distance between your low fuel light coming on, and your ECU shitting your engine off before the fuel runs out) A gallon of acetone will pay for itself in a tank or two. Maybe faster. (someone on a forum reported a prius going from 44/47, to 55) I challenge everyone to give acetone at least a 16 oz bottle's worth a try! That's the cost of only one gallon of gas in a lot of places now...
so do you mix this everytime you pump or only once? we used to add this to make the car run better for smog. it did help.
Yea iv been doing this for sometime now you do it every time you fill up and it is seriously amazing at how much it really does work
Cool when an old thread comes alive. I used to use fuel additives which I believe made a difference but now I just use 98 octane at the pump, sure it's 6 - 10 cents a litre dearer than 95 but who cares, the car runs better/cleaner.
I wouldn't do it..... We used acetone for cleaning metal parts prior to welding - so I know it's an excellent degreaser. $10/gallon, you jest? Over here it's $16/L which is 5x the price of petrol. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the inside of the manifold and T/B, yes - it would clean up the resin & grease. Putting it in the tank I'm weary - a)The stuff evaporates like mad, b)The long term effect could be like adding methanol to petrol (ie - spongy mess in the tank, pump, lines, filter, injectors) c)the acetone will displace some fuel causing the motor to run leaner, hotter and get better milage/cleaning, you could do the same with hotter plugs or smaller injectors d)Not sure but doesn't this stuff cause cancer? I think using injector cleaner or seafoam etc is a safer, wiser bet and will do the same job while known to be safe for your car
i did this for some time and i believe that it caused my wife's van to have a valve tick. i also did not notice much mpg improvement.
They are currently only available in Europe and I think Japan. If the sales are successful for these regions then I think they might consider expanding. Think they are all LHD only now.
