So the thing is now with my 87GT when i have the temp set on hot the heat blows then stops. It tends to kick on when car is at idle RPM. It will fluctuate once and awhile while driving also. Could this be a water pump issue?

your waterpump is in no way related to your dashboard :). I don't know which controls you have, but the electric ones seem te be needing some refurbishing after 25 years ;). Use the search button for more info as there are several threads on that issue.

there's several threads covering this, could be one of 2 things:
    - need to resolder the solder joints in the hvac panel
    - there's a blue piano cable that goes from the very back of the heater area (above ECU), to beside the gas pedal, through the firewall, to this coolant diverter valve thing. this cable needs to be lubricated somehow.

Thanks, I saw the threads about repairing the control unit just didn't know if that was the case. Looks like another thing to add to the list lol. Thank you all though for being so helpful
