I'm replacing the head gasket on my 3sfe soon, have some questions. Should I replace the head bolts at the same time. I'm looking to do this on the cheap. Also taking the cam sprokets off the cams do you need the speical tool or can you do it another way? P.S. fixed my cruise control by just cleaning the contacts in the control switch Sweeet!

It's recommended that the bolts be changed, but it all depends on finances in the end. I've never had trouble with reusing them personally.

Not sure what you mean about the cam sprockets - clarify a bit for us. There is only one cam gear on the 3sfe, not counting the internal gears.

Maybe this brings me hope for fixing my crusie by cleaning the contacts, due to the way it died I started to suspect a bad connection, I cant wait to try :p

I could not pull any codes to truoble shoot the c/c, so I suspected the control swithch. I removed it from the wheel then used a utility knife to cut the slot open on the switch housing. Pull open the circuit board and you will find a rubber diaghragm with 3 metal buttons in it. I used a eraser form a pencil and rubbed the buttons and the half circle contacts on the circuit board to clean them. I put it back together by using super glue and a small clamp to hold the parts together while the glue dried. Reassembled every thing and SHAZAM I have cruise now, with no fault codes. The sproket I am talking about is on the end of the cam. Do I need a special holding tool to remove it from the cam. Thanks guys.
