Hey guys i am looking at putting on new valve cover gaskets so i was wondering if you guys have any recommended brands or retailers. I live in Canada if that helps. It will be my first time taking apart an engine so i was wondering if you guys have any tips or tutorial type things.

Also wondering to replace the oil pan gasket do you just drain the oil, remove the crossmember and then take off the pan?

    Thanks alot

Well you didn't specify which engine you have so I'm guessing 3sge

Chances are you just need to tighten down the screws that hold the valve covers on. For some unknown reason Toyota used screws which seem to like loosening. I doubt that anyone makes a valve cover gasket for the 3sge engine except for Toyota. It is more of an "O" ring seal than a gasket.

I'm pretty sure on a 3sge you can remove the pan without dropping the crossmember but removing it will definetly make the job easier.

thanks alot, i hand tightened the screws to snug but they only moved maybe 1/8th of a turn from where they were so i dont think they were that. My symptom is oil in the spark plug valley.

Hahaha, pretty much identical but the right one costs more than the left one.

Don't over-tighten or you'll strip the screws... they are fragile....

i overtightened and the valve cover cracked before the screw stripped

Sometimes they list torque specs for a bolt and sometimes they don't and in the case of valve cover screws they don't list a torque.

Therefore, the proper torque setting is "snug"

Then your valve cover was probably already on it's way out.
