I thought about it, but then realised I hate touch screens in cars. A detached, easily accessible control scheme is much better. The joystick will be separate from the screen and you can mount it wherever you want, behind steering wheel etc.
There hasn't been much progress that you can actually see in the last month, but that's because I've been writing a graphics driver from scratch for the LCD There's a few different ones around for the specific LCD, but they either didn't work for me or didn't do all the things I needed so I decided to just write my own. I got a new job recently so I don't have as much free time to work on it as I did before, but rest assured I'm working on it! So far I have the main icon grid coded up and the spaces for the icons defined and ready for use. The next proper update I do will be a pretty big one, definitely some cool pictures to come
I'll just leave this here As you can see I've almost finished the custom 7x3 font and I'm still working on icons. As of now I can draw literally anything I want to the screen and I have separate functions for writing text and drawing predefined images. Now that I've got the pain in the ass bit out of the way I'm really excited to start the fun stuff As always, suggestions and comments are very welcome!
Thanks guys I know I've said this before, but progress should be a lot faster now, especially since the graphics driver is finished
Yup.............. Hurry the fuck up :lol In saying that.............. " All good things come to those who wait " This is infinetly adjustable and can't wait to hook it up for tweaking :cheers Don't forget about online upgrades :ewink
I was wondering when you would show up! I can't wait to hook it up to my celi and play with it too, I love new toys! I'm not forgetting about anything, I have a nice big list
I quote this from an other forum, but it worked well and became like a meme there: "Is it done yet?!"
Hrm...the phrase another forum I'm on prefers... 'This shit done yet?' or 'This shit run yet?' or 'This shit work yet?'
Yep, very clever.......... "Too cool for school" I say. I don't care how long this project takes but I want one........ annnnnnd, 10% of company shares (before float)......... FREE :mrgreen Remember now Aaron, charge for online upgrades :lol
It's funny you mention company shares, I've actually thought about what I'd do if my little gadgets take off. A dream of mine is to own and run a performance garage, but if I also build custom gauges, dash clusters etc. I could have "Aaron's Automotive Everything" The name sounds a bit cheesy, like "Supercheap Auto", but I can work on that lol I couldn't bring myself to ever charge for a piece of software though, to me it's like charging people to be able to flush the toilet they just bought!
1st - I'm not here to kiss butt's - Don't be a dunce IT techs get paid $400p/h for their knowledge, not their ability! People are writing stupid Apple apps and becoming millionaires overnight Plumbers have a saying - The shit stinks but the money shines I think you need to look at copyright/patents etc and build the gauges for any car. A centre console mount would prob be best. I'm sure there are others (like me) who don't like looking at hundreds of gauges when one can do everything and it's how modern race dashes are made. The only change I'd like is to have all the readings (much bigger text) scrolling and if an alert came up to have it flashing on the screen with maybe a buzzer built in and a switch/option to disable it. I don't like the icons, and the text is way too small for serious club/race use - sorry Surely it would be easy to have readings scroll and a user option to set the scroll speed? I think if you marketed it as a "all-in-one gauge" you'd make a couple of million easy Stack and SPA are the leaders in race gauges, check out their stuff and improve on it - you have the knowledge and ability to do it Give it a racey name and every car nut everywhere will want one - esp if it looks like what the racers are using. Next step is to integrate it into a programmable ecu and "viola" you have your own tuning brand! Then there's data logging, electronic suspension tuning (Tein EDFC adapted to Koni, KYB, Bilstein etc) etc just for starters... The TRD race 3SGE ecu even has in-dash tuning, not bad for 20yrs ago What I'm saying is yes it's all been done before, but not integrated and certainly not affordable I wish I were in your shoes
Interesting reading Stig. Aaron's head is gonna spin for 3 days :lol Copyright/patents is such a long drawn out PITA but necessary. I just want a basic one with a small screen and not mod my interior.
Dunce: A person incapable of learning. I'd like to think I'm the complete opposite lol My gadget has already evolved to be for pretty much any car, the only limitation is it has to be an EFI engine. Millions sounds very nice :drool I could finally buy a GT-Four! I was thinking that the text was a little too small to be useful, I think I'll have a whole bunch of display options in the settings so people can choose between the display I'm showing now and a whole bunch of other setups. The scrolling idea is brilliant, I was already planning on having notifications/alarms for the sensors so you don't have to worry about missing a low/high reading. So much more to think about It's exciting that I might just be able to make a bunch of money off of my hobby! The only problem I have is manufacturing plastic parts, it could be quite expensive if it's not done in bulk but I guess you only get out what you put in. I don't think I'd trust people with having DIY adjustable tuning though, unless I made it idiot-proof lol there's just too many things that can go wrong when someone doesn't know what they're doing and then I could get the blame. The toaster company is at fault for not telling people not to insert knives into the bread slots kind of thing D: Thanks heaps for your input, I have much to ponder
