Did a complete tune up today. NGK plugs, wires, cap, rotor, svc k&n air cleaner etc. Temp fixed sketchy air intake hose. I would like a decent after market one but no can find for cheap haha
Ill probably just dig around in alley cats bin of old parts for silicon reducer and alum tube to fab some bitchin intake
Got all the parts together to finally and permanently get rid of my fifth factory 3sge air intake hose. I'll send a few pics when I switch it.... I need to get in the old parts shed and dig out an old bottom air box...one of my clips busted off.
Here's the finished result. $17.00 total ... Way better than $50 to. $100 for the discontinued, hard to find stocker (which only last 5 years on my car before they get leaks thru the bellows and at the wire clamps) . It seems to run smoother off an idle and my slight hesitation is gone.
Good job,I did a similar thing to replace the cracked up pipe on my original REV1 engine before we swapped the motor out.
I noticed in a pic that the camshaft covers you have still retain the crosshead screws to hold them down, worth replacing them with hex bolts and a little threadlock as the old factory screws inevitably come lose and cause leaks, usually down the rear of the covers where you dont notice until you get an oil leak and wonder where its coming from, the nature of the engine sitting back at an angle also means that you can get a leak that you think is from the rear but maybe not,as gravity dictates itll go down the back of the engine which is a right pain in the ass.I replaced the cover gaskets and used the hex bolts on mine,(if you look closely in the picture you can see the bolts in place around the cam covers) and never had another leak from that area.Be careful tightening them down,I gave mine just a little extra tweak and bang, cracked the corner off the damn cover...
Thanx Sherv. ... your old motor looked kleeen with all the color contrasts. I too like a clean machine. I wash this daily driver once week rain or shine haha (I think my neighbors hate me)
I think the key word is locktite..your not the first guy to snap off a corner. Since I did my last HG a while back I've had good results (no leaks yet) by just occasionally snugging them up a bit equally, I prolly should have used locktite the first hi around tho ..
Yeah, with the original screws in place its sensible to 'nip them up' on a regular basis just to make sure.
Like most of y'all I assume you at all times have a working back up alternator. Mines a new lifetime warranty O'Reilleys 70 amper!
Happy 30 years B-Day to the GTS... Got a new 70 amp alt. from my good friends at O'Reillys (I always shave to grind a bit off the upper mounting areas in these aftermarket units haha) Seems to be a noticeable difference in overall electrical usage with my small Amp, AC, lights etc. Charging better especially at idle.
